Subject: 1000 points, Regular Terminators VS Hammernators

Hey all so Im playing a few 1000 point games, against Black templars, Orks and Mechanicum (yeah I know its 30k but no one else in our group has 30k yet so I am fine with it)
so I have most of my list figured out, a couple predators, a librarian, some sternguard in a rhino and a footslogging tac squad and scout squad
I think terminators are a decent idea based on the prevalence of AP 3 in the mechanicum army, but knowing the Orks and BT dont have much ap 2 so I was thinking some regular termies with a heavy flamer (as I am salamanders)
might be a better option as they can at least shoot the turn they are dropped in, or if they footslog can do something other than look scary
anyone have any thoughts? in 1250+ I always take hammernators but thats because I always sneak a land raider in there

Without a Land Raider, I'd take Tactial Termies with an Assault Cannon. Drop them near something AV10/11 (ie most Ork vehicles, any Transports or non-LR tanks the Templars have, not sure on Mechanicum) and try and pop it on the drop. Then, get stuck in to the nearest vehicle or small AP2-less squad as soon as you can charge. Whatever you do, don't charge them into a large squad or DS them in the open, try and put some terrain between them and any AP2 when dropping in.

It's hard to say Which one's better as pure DS force. 3++ is sweet but an assault cannon or a 2-shot missile launcher is great too. You can expect to not face much ap2 stuff other than PK and a few meltas/plasmas here and there.
In general, orks don't need ap2 against termies. They'll drown you in dice anywayz. So, positioning is super-important when you go against them.
I'd probably go for tactical termies too.

You could get BA or SW for Drop Pods.
I'd say DA has the best Tactical Termies (as they can mix & match stuff inside - 2 with TH/SS, the sarge, one dude and a guy with heavy weapon), getting Twin-linked when arriving and able to do that turn 1
GK Termies are a good option as well

Thanks for all the replies! so the Mechanicum guy has a whoke bunch of those Castellax guys which are M.C's but no vehicles, Orks is allll infantry +1 dakkajet and the Black templars are a jump pack assaault force.
my only concern with switching to Tactical terminators is that all those MC's (I believe he has 6) will eat them alive- but I could be wrong its been a long time since I've played
sadly I dont have to books or funds to do any other SM chapter or leap into grey knights- but in the long term I want to make a "Promethean Cult" army that will likely be grey knights

Well, if those are mellee-oriented mc, th/ss termies will do better as MC all have ap2.

Hmm, if they are low on vehicles and high on MCs, you might want to take TH/SS instead. The same theory applies, though; use them where they are at minimal risk and can do the most good.
