Hey guys wanted to join the painting challenge for this month. Just signed up after just getting back into 40k and I really think this is the best way to get me motivated. I would like a lil C+C on composition and all around feel of the model mostly, painting is obviously not even started just 3 colors to get an idea of the design.

The idea is this veteran is the Captain of the 3rd Ultramarines company (Tyranid Killers). I wanted him to be the most badass tyranid killer so I made his set up a bit dramatic.

Sword is from an old hive tyrant along with the head for the shield.

Smaller heads are from gaunts, was inspired by the chaos skulls on the backpack and figured why not have gaunt *skulls*.

I figured for a real challenge I would use the entire base. So used the extra head+body and chainsword to make a trail of death behind him.

Any other cool ideas or comments would be awesome. Thanks for the help!

Hey buddy, I know that you're new here so here's a quick tip.
Include actual pictures in your posts and people will be far more likely to comment.
I've read the text to this and your other thread and they sound interesting but I'm currently on my phone so I won't be clicking links and each time I've gone to a computer I've forgotten.

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.
Oli: But it fits through the doors, Look!

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'll give some CC:

The base colours are great, now you just need a bunch of shades and highlights!
What's up with the sword and 'shield' sparkling? What?

I think the sparkly stuff you are seeing is a mix between camera and the sword being metal. Next plan of attack is t clean up all the base colors. He was originally the AOBR captain but found out about the challenge and tore him apart so the paint does not match all around.

My biggest tip is to get into the habit of thinning your paints. Rather than applying them straight from the pot/bottle, mix them with a little water first until they are thin enough that they still give a solid coat but don't leave brushstrokes or obscure detail. This is something best to learn early on in painting, as it's pretty fundamental once you reach a certain level.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I have been painting my entire army which is a few squads in an assembly line fashion and I think this caused me to slack in thinning some of my models. Honestly before this conversion he was just an AOBR captain so just rushed through. Do you suggest simple greening him and priming and starting fresh or should I just try to clean him up? Since the glue is *fresh* im worried he might just fall apart.

Honestly, if it can be done without too much hassle, I would strip him, glue together any parts that come apart (which is no big deal) and lay down a nice, thin black basecoat before starting again. When you change direction on a paintscheme, it's always easier to start from scrath again than fiddle around with with you already have.

Awesome thanks…this will also make sure I am 100% for the challenge. Thanks for the advice will strip tomorrow.
