Got some Devastators and spare heavy weapons and wondering about the best way to kit them out for maximum effectiveness.

4 X lascannon. Lots of killy, but not lots of endurance.

Triple plas cannon can be fun. I have one equipped as such, and blasts are fun. I also have a double las and launcher squad too as that to me is the best way to equip them if all you have is one box of Devs. They only come with so many guns you see.

I think both squads work great, I run them min sized and always use the Signum. People say they are costly for what they do, but I like Devs as a good solid fluff choice. Tuck them in a razor, depending on the gear and let them rip.

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.

For me, I see 3 load out patterns that work.
1) 4 of the same weapon: This load out is simplest one, most task specific, works with all the weapons and makes keeping the signum alive important to maintain the BS5 weapon for the longest time.

2) 1/3 load out: Pretty much means 1 Las/3 Rocket, 1Multi/3 plasma The idea being one accurate quality gun and quanity of lower quality guns. Again signum is key plus keeping the "expensive" gun alive. Can be a bit more versatile than build 1

3) 2/2 with 10 devs: Take a max squad and combat in to two dedicate hvy weapon squads Sigum goes to which ever squad is more useful on a give opponent.

If you really need tanks dead, 4 lascannons should work. Most effective with imperial fist chapter tactics, with tank hunters.

My personal favorite is 4x missile launchers. Less effective vs tanks than lascannons, but more versatile because of the blast option.

Now, if you want a unit that shreds light armor and infantry of all types, and you happen to be playing with imperial fist chapter tactics, then try 4x heavy bolters. 115 points for 12 str5 ap4 tank hunting shots that reroll 1s to hit. Instantly vaporizes av10 and 11 vehicles, and puts huge dents in infantry.

How much focus do you want, versus flexibility? Going 4x will give you the most bang for your buck, but pigeonhole you into one job. Unless you go 4xML, in which case you are going to be meh at everything. If you do mix, you get more options, but become worse at everything. But make sure your weapons do overlap. You don’t want the HB guy scratching paint while the LC hopes he gets the job done.
