Are these units 40k approved? The Forgeworld site says experimental, Does this mean that major events such as LVO don't allow them? They seem quite good for SM armies.

The rules on the FW website are ancient and should have been removed a long time ago. They've been published in official form in IA1 (IG version), IA2 (marine version), IA12 and IA:Vraks (DKoK version), and IA13 (chaos version). All of them are "final" rules and legal under the standard rules of 40k. Of course, like any rules, whether any third-party TO decides to ban them is up to that TO.

Well, all the big events have moved in favor of FW. So I wouldnt be too worried about bans on FW. Possibly just restrictions on certain units, Loth comes to mind.

They are good space marine units, but even better IG units. They bring some serious pain when given ignore cover orders.
