Kroot are pretty much used for one tactic. Infiltrate with sniper rounds and try to pick things off before they die.

Theyre not to be underestimated though. Ive had a unit of kroot snipers 1shot a Wraithknight since NOTHING SAYS they cannot benefit from markerlights so i had ~18 sniper hitsturn 1 lol.

Then again i play the distraction tactic so they also serve as a speedbump for my army. I want my opponent to kill them first because after their initial strike theyre pretty useless unless completely ignored (which is unlikely). Love pissing people off with horribly cheap units and force them to waste time dealing with them

Kroot are a prime bauble wrap for tau.
Furthermore, they can outflank and provide some nice backfield threat.

That works too. Though i find i'd rather buy piranha squads for my "speedbumps" because they and the drones are in the category of "i dont wanna deal with it but i have to..." and are just strong enough to either waste turns with charges or antitank weapons.

Gotten to the point where my opponents are tailoring their lists to deal with those piranhas i keep spamming. I keep doing it because they spend more points to get rid of them than i did to bring them lol

Kroots are good as blockade units using infiltration deployment, which will buy time for the Tau main gunline or mobil units.

Kroot were always good to infiltrate or outflank and just cause another distraction. If they can kill things even better, not much of an investment on your side.
