Do necron space ships travel through the warp or are the FTL capable? Or do they use something else?

From the Battlefleet Gothic manual:

INERTIALESS DRIVE
Necron drives are capable of interstellar travel
without the need to enter the Warp. The drive is
fired whenever All Ahead Full orders are issued;
instead of obeying the normal rules for this
order the ship gains D6 x 10cm additional
movement and can make a turn for every 20cm
it travels.

So an inertialess real-space and probably FTL capable drive system.

Yep, the inertialess drive, which has blinked in and out of "canonicity" a couple times now, permits the Necrons to achieve FTL speeds without the Warp. This is supplanted, somewhat, by the current reliance on Dolmen Gates, which are similar to Web-way Gates, for it is noted that, without them, they would be forced to rely on their old, sub-light Torch Ships.

That does not, however, explain how their various fleets zip around the galaxy, lay waste to some planets, and then disappear back into the void so quickly, so it's safe to assume that the Inertialess Drive is still around and on a staggering number of ships, even though (like the Warp Drive), it isn't present on every class of ship in the Necron armada.

It may also be that the Necrons don't have a "troop carrier" model of vessel, other than the capital-class Tomb Ship. This might be why they rely on Dolmen Gates to move Warriors from Point A to B... the Lord may simply not want to share his vessel with so many of the rank-and-file? Who knows. The way they've explained the Necron's reliance on Dolmen Gates doesn't make a lot of sense, since they are known to have FTL technology.

I always thought they have FTL other than Dolem gates. I imagined it that their FTL drive was kind of slow like the Tau and that if they want to move fast they use the Dolem

On that note, can anyone find a mention of Dolmen Gates in the new codex? A quick scan through on my part hasn't found them mentioned at all.

Knowing GW, such "irrelevant info is likely hidden in some obscure side bar or bulletin', hidden within a wall of text about some monkey's hat, collecting dust.

If we can forget about the whole ridiculous thing, that would be great. The Sautekh supposedly only control three dolmen gates and are the most powerful necron dynasty, so if that's their only source of FTL, the map in the new codex must be wrong.

Lack of mention is not proof of absence.

Not saying it is. Just saying that a map that shows that the Sautekh dynasty controls a quarter of the eastern galaxy is incompatible with the idea of a dynasty whose only method of FTL is via dolmen gates, of which they only control three (according to Hammer and Anvil by Swallow)

Right, hence why I think the Inertialess Drive is still a thing, but the whole "without the Dolmen Gates, they'd be fethed!" just doesn't make any sense in that case.

Ah, so, who actually said they would be fethed without dolmen gates? I was only asking if anyone had found a reference to them in the newest book.

Haven't read the latest Codex: Necrons, but their previous one implied it with their reliance on them to get from A to B (and in which the Inertialess Drive is, iirc, not mentioned at all).

Yeah, which was why IA12 was forced to bring the Inertialess Drive back for the Maynarkh to be any kind of credible threat.

ECodex lists Dolmen gates precisely three times all as part of action scenes, it actually never describes what they are in this book at all.

Aargh, why are GW allergic to numbered pages these days?!

The one in The Awakening seems to be some kind of super Eternity Gate, and has been deployed directly into battle. Not found the other two references in my flick through.

Mentioned twice in awakening, and once in the necron timeline.
