I don't have my IA:13 on me atm but I remember it stating something like; Renegades count as CSM when it comes to determining what army they are with the exception that they can ally with CSM. Be'lakor can be an HQ in a CSM army. Does this mean he can be the 2nd HQ in a renegade force? My memory may not be serving me correctly (hence me making a pigs ear of the wording), but if it is, that would be allowed right?

They don't count as CSM, they only count as CSM for the ally matrix. So no they don't get Be'lakor

Ahhhhh yes that rings a bell now you mention it! Thank you, saved me waiting 3 days until I was home to realise a formulating idea was screwed from the outset.

But still completely playable. A squad of chaos marines will let you add be'lakor as part of an allied detahcment so you stay battleforged. i think he can also be a chaos demon HQ so you can do the same with deamon troops (not a bad idea to pick a box of these up anyway what with being renegade and having assess to the demonic summoning psychic powers) or go unbound and just take him along anyway. The renegade rule will keep them as battle brothers.

Yeh that would be an option. I was just trying to keep it at 2 detachments, and the list I'm building already has 2 renegade detachments.
