ok reading the rules on grenades it says "When a unit armed with assault grenades makes a shooting attack, one model can choose to throw a grenade, rather than using another shooting weapon."
so this may seem stupid but does it mater which model threw the grenade? Can that same model not throw any more the rest of the game? and I can only throw 1 at time, not all ten troops in one turn?

I assume Frag and Assault grenades mean the same thing.

Also if used in close combat
Frag/assault grenades don't really do anything if you are not in difficult terrain

Krak grenade in close combat I use the S4 and AP4 instead of the sandard close combat weapon correct?

Thanks

The only time it matter which model threw the grenade is when you're measuring... you need one model that has grenades to be within those 8". You don't need to worry about running out of grenades or anything like that, but it is only one model per squad that is allowed to throw it (not all 5 or 10).

Frag=Assault
Having assault grenades when charging into difficult means you don't lose initiative.

Grenades can not be used in close combat though. You can only use weapons that are classified as melee, or a pistol (it counts as a CC weapon, uses your basic stats though). The only time you can actually hit an opponent with a krak grenade is against monstrous creatures and vehicles, in which case it hits with its profile of S6 AP4.

Keep in mind that grenades used in melee mean you only get a single attack. Even though you may have 2-3 attacks on the charge, this is reduced to 1 if you use the grenade.

EDIT: And when you're using grenades in CC against a MC or vehicle, you actually can have all the models that have them use grenades. So 5 tac marines charging a riptide would have the option of 10 attacks at S4, no AP, or 5 attacks with krak profile.

Frag grenades are a type of Assault Grenade. There are others, like Eldar Plasma Grenades.

When a unit is making shooting attacks, one member of the unit may use a Grenade instead of doing another ranged attack. This does not use up the grenades he carries, everyone in 40k has unlimited ammo unless explicitly specified. Which model is throwing the grenade does matter for the purposes of measuring ranges and cover.

You are limited to only using one grenade in the shooting phase because if everyone could throw grenades it would be too powerful. A full squad of tactical marines would have 10 small blasts. Not only would that be super strong, but it would also be tedious to resolve that many scatters.

In melee combat, grenades can only be used against vehicles and monstrous creatures. Unlike shooting, everyone can choose to use a grenade if they want. You also only get 1 attack if you use a grenade in melee.
