Hi,
Gonna sound really weird, but it's just my thoughts.
I think that grots should count as 1\2 a model because they're so small. Here is how it should look if this ever became a rule.
Lightweight: Because grots are so small and light, they count as 1\2 a model when using vehicles.
Example: Let's say you had a battlewagon that could transport 20 models. 10 grots and a runtherd then boarded the battlewagon.
The runtherd still counts as one model. So, since 10/2=5, then we would only have 6 people in the battlewagon (counting the runtherd), because 10 grots counting as 1\2 a model would be 5 people. Then the runtherd, as he counts as a full model, brings the total up to 6.
Thoughts? I know it sounds weird, but I just want to see what everyone else thinks.

I like the concept, but this just over complicates transports, in a way. Fluffwise, I think the grots get a bit nippy over "personal space" with each other, at least that's my excuse.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Would Over Compicating transports be getting confused as to how many grots are really in the transport? Or What?

It makes sense to me, ogyrns are bulky and take up 2 spaces, grots and maybe ratlings could take up 1/2

I don't see how. We have Meganobz that are 'Bulky.' Perhaps we can have a new rule that's "Puny." It can apply to units like Grots, Ratlings, etc.

Sounds good to me. I'd be happy to houserule that.

Puny sounds rude and hardly PC ... diminutive perhaps?

There's nothing wrong with the word "puny". If the rule was called "midgeteous" or "dwarfesque", you'd have a point.

I've been considering proposing this as a houserule myself, makes sense to have a full unit of 30 pile out of a battlewagon, and due to the runtherd being 1, you would max out at 20 and 2 herders in a trukk. heck, it even goes a way to explain why our usual transport is 12 rather than 10!

Wow, some people agree with me!
It's certainly possible they could squabble over space, but I still think they should count as 1\2 a model.

This house rule sounds good. It is now official in our house!

Standing with my enemies, hung on my horns. With haste and reverie, killing with charm. I play, I'm sick and tame, drawing the hordes. I wait, and show the lame, the meaning of harm. The skulls beneath my feet, like feathers in sand. I graze among the graves, a feeling of peace.

Puny Grots.

Another question is why would you bother with transports for grots.

It'd be more useful if you counted grots as 1/2 for casualties purposes. Like in Mordheim.

For example, you have a squad of 20 + 2 runtherds. Currently, you need to kill 6 models to force ld. But when you count them as 1/2 casualties, you have to kill 11. Or 9 grots and 1 runtherd. Makes perfect sence for them imo. And will inspire taking larger squads rather than min size.

It wouldn't change for casualty purposes. If grots counted as 1/2 a model then 20 grots would count as 10 models so you would only need to cause 2.5 casualties. 2.5 casualties if grots count as 1/2 a model would be 5 grots. Which is still 25% of the unit.

Maybe i've written it wrong but the idea was that you got to loose 2 times more grots to force ld check.

I would love to see them count as 1/4 of a model. I could easily see a Runtherder prodding in grots onto of each other like clowns in a Volkswagen.

But 1/2 would be awesome too. I also felt that this should have been in the codex anyways.

1/4 is overdoing it.

The only thing I use them for is for the Waaaagh formation which forces you to take the little gaks.

They can hold objectives pretty good due to the fact that they get cover from everything,

And it would be hilarous to drop 37 grotz from a battlewagon.

People say that, but really, grots are the secret weapon of the Ork codex.

The number of Deathwing units I've wiped out with grot blastas is insane. Although I miss the days when they came with autoguns.

I think your first sentence is supposed to be a question and to to answer that, no. 20 grots does not equal 10 models/wounds. The original post is in regard of how they count for transport purposes. For example, look at space marines with jump packs. They are 1 wound, but count as bulky for transport. 10 marines would count as 20 models, by your example. Those making it that someone would need to kill 5 models to get the unit to 25% casualties, instead of it being 50% because the squad size is 10.

Grots *should* count as 1\2 a model FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRANSPORTS.
Not for the purpose of casualties.

Maybe so, but I can easily see 4 grots taking up the same space as a space marine. Plus runtherders would cram them in a transport not giving a gak about comfort.
