The Internet- where men are men, women are men, and kids are undercover cops

So, my FLGS decided to do tourney play. Hooray!

After a half-dozen games perfecting a beautiful list centered around Oicunn and Firespray with Recon Spec, I woke up on the day of and checked my email.

"As you know, today we are running the first OP for X-Wing @ [name of FLGS removed] at 12pm. To keep with the release format of the OP kits only the ships that were out at the time of the OP kit release are legal and that list follows:

X-wing, Y-wing, Millennium Falcon, A-wing, Slave I, Tie Fighter, Tie Advanced, and Tie Interceptor. "

... well, feth me.

So, 30 minutes from tourney start, I loaned two of my X Wings to my good friend/flat-mate, talked him into running two rookies instead of Chewbacca (he flew this list to 2nd place), and I hashed together a list with a mini-swarm and a Firespray without the crewman and gives it enough staying/killing power to be worthwhile. FYI, the last time I flew a TIE fighter was probably last July.

4th out of 6. The two guys I play with on a daily basis/hang out with outside of X-Wing got 1st and 2nd... which was nice, since I'd helped both sharpen their skills and vicarious victory was the only real victory I got that day.

Winner was 4x Academy Pilots and 4x Black Squadron. 2nd was Wedge, two rookies, and Biggs+R2D2.

Third, which I didn't play (and think I could have beaten) was Han Solo and 2 X-Wings, upgrades unknown since I never played him.

I had fun.

Perhaps not technically a Marine Chapter anymore, but the Flame Falcons would be pretty creepy to fight.

"We tried, but the gits was already on fire."

That's bizarre. I really don't understand why your TO seems to think that ships from well over a year ago (b-wing, etc) shouldn't be current. I could understand that kind of rule if it applied to the new scum releases since they've only been available for a week or two, but it doesn't make any sense to go all the way back to 2013.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
