I have seen the citadel modeling tray but noticed it was discontinued. Do any of you know of a similar type built tray that sits in your lap such as the citadel tray and one that holds the citadel pots of paint? Thanks for any suggestions.

Tray; visit McDonalds with a Backpack, KIDDING, there are many "sectioned" food serving plates and trays for cheap, especially for little kids, that can be found everywhere in all sizes with a quick search.

I don't know if you know this, but the reason the citadel project tray was discontinued was that they put out a project box instead
It is really handy, if you use citadel paints.

The citadel tray is junk. It flexes when any pressure is applied, which is especially silly since it has a matching cutting mat.
The new tray out of the project box is marginally better; however, any elevated plastic tray that is hollow (or has feet) will suffer problems like this. At least, the paint pot rack from the new project box is useful

One 2'x4' sheet of 1/4" MDF, a saw, 1-1/4" spade or Forstner bit (diameter of a GW paint pot), and some wood glue. Add a jig-/coping-/holesaw if you want water cup storage and some smaller bits for brush storage holes. Small screws or brads through the glued joints will make it rock solid.
Building over buying isn't for everyone, but if you have the tools already, you're looking at $5-10 and a casual afternoon's work for a sturdier and customizable tray.

I think you need a drill press to make nice, consistent holes, though (especially if you want 20, 50, 100, or more). I've tried without, and it just turns out a sloppy mess. Could just be my lackluster woodworking skills.
I have a crappy Dremel-converted-to-drill-press that I hate (too much speed, not enough torque to cut any large hole)... on my wishlist is a real drill press.

A drill press certainly makes things easier, but it's not a necessity - I've only recently got one, myself, and don't even have the space to leave it permanently set up. As long as you're using something with even vaguely appropriate speed and torque (i.e. pretty much anything that spins except a rotary tool ), you can make it work perfectly well.
Biggest issue with drilling nice holes is tearout upon exit. Next time you need to drill something and keep it pretty, lay a little scrap (wood or MDF, doesn't matter which - it just has to be reasonably stiff and drillable) underneath. I like to keep a sacrificial chunk of 2x4 around for this (can be clamped projecting off the desk for awkward pieces). It'll support the material at the bottom of the hole, keeping the bit shaving away cleanly instead of just punching crap out of the way as soon as the material gets weak enough. Same idea works to keep jigsaw cuts pretty, except you lay the scrap on top (teeth cut on the upstroke, so the bottom plate takes the force, not your arm).
Oh, and always center-punch before starting to drill, unless using Fostners. Walking bits make for ugly projects. Pre-drilling a narrow hole (I generally default to 1/16" - the smallest common size for Americans) helps you keep everything aligned when moving up to larger twist or spade bits.

Thanks for the advice guys. Citadel is actually out of stock on the new project box so I guess they are selling a lot of them. I gave my email so I will know when they get more. I kinda hate to spend 66 more bucks on this hobby this month as Im already about 200 in the hole with it. LOL. Im enjoying the hell out of putting the toether though. I have a tactical team together that Im about to try to pain. Cant wait to see what I got myself into. LOL. This better be worth it becuase no one I know or anyone around even plays the game. Im just collecting I guess. Im disabled and I have grown kinda tired of playing video games all the time so this will keep me pretty busy for awhile I hope. I just got in my citadel paints and my model kits. Blood Angels Tactical Squad, Blood Angels Death Company, and the Sanguinary Guard Squad. Im gonna paint a Space Marine Squad I got ast week and put together as Blood Angels and see how my painting is. Maybe I will post pics if they turn out good.
