I... actually don't know. Help?

Wow, that caps! After a few boring math lessons, I've been writing on a paper filled with Ork Trukk tactics. I've got the following:

12 Shoota Boyz in a Trukk
12 Slugga Boyz in a Trukk
12 'Ard Shoota Boyz in a Trukk
12 'Ard Slugga Boyz in a Trukk

All Trukks are without upgrades. The Orks are without Nobs and special weapons. The Trukk will go as fast as possible until the Boyz can disembark. The Boyz will run until withing assault range, in which they will shoot once and assault.
The Boyz's goal is a 10-man Tactical Squad, with no special weapons. All of them will have Bolters.

Commence the horrible paint.net diagrams!

As you see here, there are four (4) Ork Trukks on the left side. The whole grid is 36 squares long, and the Trukks deploy at ~33 inches. Assume that each square is an inch on TT.

The black spots are Marines, the black and red mark is the maximum range of the Bolters. Note that I did not consider having the Trukk move flat out, mostly because I wanted to simulate a larger distance without complicating it too much.

The black Trukk is filled with 12 Shoota Boyz, the red one 12 Slugga Boyz, the blue one 12 'Ard Shoota Boyz, and guess what, the yellow one contains 12 'Ard Slugga Boyz.

All of the Trukks have now moved 12 inches. All Marines have shot a Bolt each at all Trukks, resulting in all Trukks losing 1.11 Hull Points, or ~1 Hull Point each.

Now, the Trukks have moved another 12 inches. After being exposed to rapid fire from the Bolters, all Trukks have been wrecked.

Here are the disembarked Boyz. They're represented by a green tide, isn't that cute?

Now, the Boyz are moving up, shooting and assaulting. Look down below to see stats on how the Boyz survived.

SHOOTA BOYZ
- After shooting a total of 24 shots at the Marines, a total of 8 shots hit, 4 wounded and 1.333 armour saves failed. ~1 Marines died.
Now, assault. 18 Bolt rounds fired in overwatch, 3 hits and 1.5 wounds taken. 1.5 dead Orks.
The Marines strike at I4. 9 attacks, 4.5 hits, 2.25 wounds and 1.875 wounds taken. ~2 dead Orks. Now, there are 9 Orks left, with 3 attacks each.
Orks turn: 27 attacks, 13.5 hits, 4.5 wounds taken and 1.5 dead Marines. 2.5 Marines dead in total.

SLUGGA BOYZ
- After shooting a total of 12 shots at the Marines, a total of 4 shots hit, 2 wounded and 0.667 armour saves failed. ~0-1 Marines died.
Now, assault. 19 Bolt rounds fired in overwatch, ~3.16 hits and ~1.6 wounds taken. 1.6 dead Orks, ~1-2 dead Orks.
The Marines strike at I4. 9 attacks, 4.5 hits, 2.25 wounds and 1.875 wounds taken. ~2 dead Orks. Now, there are 9 Orks left, with 4 attacks each.
Orks turn: 36 attacks, 18 hits, 6 wounds taken and 2 dead Marines. 2-3 dead Marines in total.

'ARD SHOOTA BOYZ
After shooting a total of 24 shots at the Marines, a total of 8 shots hit, 4 wounded and 1.333 armour saves failed. ~1 Marines died.
Now, assault. 18 Bolt rounds fired in overwatch, 3 hits and 1.5 wounds taken. After armour saves, 0.75 dead Orks.
The Marines strike at I4. 9 attacks, 4.5 hits, 2.25 wounds and after armour saves 1.125 wounds are taken. 1 dead Ork. Now, there are 10 Orks left, with 3 attacks each.
Orks turn: 30 attacks, 15 hits, 5 wounds taken and 1.667 dead Marines. 2.5 Marines dead in total.

'ARD SLUGGA BOYZ
After shooting a total of 12 shots at the Marines, a total of 4 shots hit, 2 wounded and 0.667 armour saves failed. 0.5 Marines died.
Now, assault. 19 Bolt rounds fired in overwatch, 3.167 hits and 1.583 wounds taken. After armour saves, 0.792 dead Orks.
1.5 Marines dead in total.

SHOOTA BOYZ
9 Orks alive, 2.5 dead Marines.

SLUGGA BOYZ
9 Orks alive, 2-3 dead Marines.

'ARD SHOOTA BOYZ
10 Orks alive, 2.5 dead Marines.

'ARD SLUGGA BOYZ
10 Orks alive, 2-3 dead Marines.

Most effective? 'Ard Boyz, according to the statistics. But is it worth it? A squad of 12 Sluggas cost 72 points. 'Ard Sluggas? 120 points. For that, you could get 20 Slugga Boyz, which are all way more effective. Think about it like this: 12 wounds with a bit of survivability, or 20 wounds?

Alright, but what about Slugga Boyz vs Shoota Boyz? Well, for the one who wants to have more statistical certainty, get Shoota Boyz. If you want to sway between 2-3 kills, take Sluggas.

That's all for me, I'm Matthew, and that was my TED speech.

To Valhall! ~2800 points

The 'ard sluggas should have 40 attacks, not 30. They have 4 attacks each on the charge, and that'd make them the most effective rather than the shootas, I believe, at least in this particular circumstance.

That's true enough.
40x attacks hitting on 4+ = 20 hits
20x Str 4 hits, wounding on 4+ = 10 wounds
3+ armour save = 3.33 kills

If you include the 0.667 marines killed in shooting prior to charge, that's 4 marines dead to 'ard sluggas. Orks win combat by 2.

avoiding the lorax on Crion

That relies on bolters only.

Bigger weapons could make life harder, plasma guns are full bs on the move for example,

If still a laser/missile if hit, trukk is gone.

You need to include some heavy weapons because if the Trukk explodes than the 'eavy armor becomes more useful. Trukks explode really easy, so you can count on some of them doing that.

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

That's also true, you'd have to do a similar mathammer with an exploding trukk.
12 boyz suffering Str 4 wound on 4+ = 6 wounds
6+ armour = 5 dead boyz
Pinning test = 42% chance of pinned, will suffer another round of rapid bolter fire.
LD test at beginning of turn, no Mob rule exclusions due to -10 boyz, no Nob = 42% chance of running away.

12 'rd boyz suffering Str 4 wound on 4+ = 6 wounds
4+ armour = 3 dead boyz
Pinning test and LD test as above (25% casualties)

If they do get into combat, the results would be very different to the OP.

Obviously, solve these problems with Green Tide.

I'd also suggest taking rams. I always do. It's 5 points that's worth adding on. One bad roll and that trukk and it's occupants won't be going very far, very fast. And you'll kick yourself every single time you get an immobilized result due to dangerous terrain and didn't add that ram.

Unless you're on planet Bowling Ball, then no rams needed.

Can't the shoot boyz snap shot from the trukk on the turn they are in bolter range? that might net you an extra dead marine if you get lucky.,..

You know, there's something beautifully orky about the completely pointless and poorly drawn diagrams.

Count their truck getting exploded on the way there. With insuring pinnings, morales and mob rules. And the chance that you loose a nob to the explosion.
