Subject: Tournament List! Thoughts?

I have a tournament coming up, and I don't want to just copy/paste a net list. So I was thinking:
Luke Skywalker - R2D2
Wedge Antilles - Predator
3 x Bandit Squadron Pilot
100 pts
Thoughts? Criticisms? What do you think this will be successful against? Where do you think it will struggle?

Switch Predator and R2D2. Wedge is already target #1 on the list. Luke will be last, because he's already harder than normal to kill.

Here's a good way to start the discussion: in what way is your proposed list better than the netlist you could use instead? Is this genuinely a better strategy for you, or are you just stubbornly opposed to using anything that you didn't invent yourself? Automatically Appended Next Post: EmpNortonII wrote:Switch Predator and R2D2. Wedge is already target #1 on the list. Luke will be last, because he's already harder than normal to kill.
Yeah, and that's why Luke has R2-D2. The combination of his pilot ability and regenerating shields makes him very hard to kill in endgame situations. So you have an awkward choice: do you kill Luke immediately while you know you have the firepower to break through his tank, even if it means letting Wedge get free shots? Or do you get Wedge off the table asap and hope that you have enough ships left to deal with Luke at some point in the future?
Also, R2-D2 on Wedge isn't worth all that much because he's a priority target and has no defensive abilities. You need several turns with R2-D2 for it to be a good investment, and Wedge often dies in the first 1-2 turns of shooting before he gets a chance to use R2-D2 effectively.

Obviously, this isn't going to take over Fat Han or Super Dash and reinvent the meta. I think it will be more effective against swarms than the large based, turreted ships, but it will suffer against arc dodgers. And it should have enough firepower to strip down the larger ships as well.
I like R2 D2 on Luke because of his pilot ability late game, like Peregrine said. Predator is a strong ability for Wedge, but he does look like priority number one, so do you think I'll be able to make it worth the points before he is off the board? Would I be better off going for swarm tactics for luke or wedge to allow z 95s to cover more arcs and get shots on decloaked phantoms?

My experience with Wedge is that more than any pilot except Krassis Trelix, I tend to manage to roll one hit turn after turn even with target lock.
In contrast, the last game I played involving Luke, he died in a single round of shooting from a TIE mini-swarm and a HLC Firespray.

Actually, I think it's probably going to be worse against swarms. Why? Because you have no unpredictable maneuvering options to prevent the swarm from focusing fire, blocking to deny movement/actions, and taking full advantage of its superior math. You can't take maneuvering actions to get out of arc, you can't fly past the swarm and kite with a turret, etc. And you've got quite a few points invested in ships that aren't all that much more effective than generics in a jousting match. This is exactly the kind of list that a swarm player wants to see on the other side of the table.

I think the list is passable but somewhat inefficient
It's a list with X-wings, X-wings have kind of been left been behind as their points cost was higher than it should have been start with, add to that a lot of the early unique pilots like Wedge and Luke were equally overcosted, hopefully FFG will fix this a some point with an upgrade card or two.
I also think high end PS without any kind of further movement options, ie Barrel Roll, Boost, Engine Upgrade, isn't great as you may as well pick the PS5-6 ships
I'd recommend playing the list and I think you'll see some of the problems, I'll wager the Z95 pack will do more than either Luke or Wegde

One combination which is still good is Luke and R2-D2 - which significantly improves his survivability.
What I might suggest is Lone Wolf on Luke - if you find he tends to be last man standing - as this further stacks his durability and boosts his firepower as well. I'd happily swap Predator on Wedge for Lone Wolf on Luke and maybe take something cheap on wedge instead (Calculation or Adrenaline Rush are good).
The Bandits can make a nice mess of large ships - three ships with Target Lock can put reasonable hurt on a large ship. As noted, they won't like swarms and won't like really manouvrable arc dodgers, though.
