So I quite like the look of the Centurion Devastators, I've had a google and can see a few posts from 2013 but it hasn't answered my questions.

Is there any way of having centurion Devastator squads with a DA army or do they have to be taken as allies from the Standard space marine codex?

Thanks

Allies only.

Or Unbound.

Unbound? Sorry for my ignorance.

Unbound is the occasionally frowned upon method of army selection implemented in 7th edition in which a player can use any models in their collection to form an army regardless of FoC constraints, detachments, source books or other previous restrictions. Alot of competitive events and players dislike this format as it is obviously open to abuse but amidst a smaller trusting gaming group it can be a narrative tool for army building.

Unbound lets you field an army of 7 riptides, for example. Sure, there are no rules against it, but you might get a few unpleasant looks or gestures if you run this sort of army.

Using them as allies however I would have to take them as as per FOC and therefore have to have a HQ and two units to take a heavy support Is that correct?

Depends on the detachment you take. you can take an Allied Detachment which only has 1 HQ and 1 Troop mandatory but only lets you take 1 Heavy slot

By your questions I am curious as to whether you have the 7th Edition rulebook. Whilst my own terminology was off there is strictly no standardised FoC anymore but detachments.

Combined Arms Detachment - Formed of what many older players know as the FoC chart

Allied Detachment - 1 HQ, 1 Troop Minimum

Hive Mind Detachment

Council of the Waagh

And so on and so forth.

Just had a re-cap and I see that allied detachment is just hq plus one troop min.

Would have preferred to keep it all actual Dark Angel / RavenWing really. Might just buy more Deathwing!
