Have watched some games of X-Wing but haven't really got anything yet.

Can someone help me with which packs to buy at a minimum to field two decent 100 pt lists that include Slave I for the Empire side and the YT-2400 for the Rebel side?

I like those ships fluff wise. Doesn't have to be super competitive.

Thanks!

The problem is you will want all the things.

However to get rolling:

Starter set x 2
1x Tie Fighter expansion
1x X-Wing expansion

Gives you a 5 tie swarm and a basic triple x list, plus all the stuff you need to get games going smoothly (2 sets of movement rulers, 2 damage decks, plenty of dice).

Then add the Slave 1, YT-2400, Lambda shuttle and Falcon.
The shuttle and Falcon come with a lot of the upgrades you want for other ships.

Thanks! That's actually not as bad as I was expecting.

Although I previously said that I hadn't got anything, I actually already have the Starter x 2 (as someone else had suggested to me earlier), Slave and YT-2400.

So looks like I just need the Tie, X-W, Falcon and Shuttle.

Anything else I should get after that?

Everything.

Your best bet is to use an online squadron builder and figure out what you want to play and then see which expansions the cards you want to use come in. Check this out while you're at it, it's a consolidated list of common squadrons and an explanation of the common archetypes.

Yeah I think the main thing you absolutely need is a *very* understanding significant other. This is pharmaceutical grade plastic crack.

The main limitation you are going to have is getting the upgrade cards you need to run ships the way you want to. This is particularly the case if you are looking at running bigger ships like the YT-2400 which tend to be kitted out. This isn't an issue if you are playing casually because you can always print off the cards yourself, but competitive or semi competitive (depends on your gaming group) you are going to need the actual cards. If you are interested in playing Rebels I would highly recommend getting at least 1 Z-95 though, they are great just as cheap filler ships and if you have points spare at the end you are almost always going to be better off putting in another ship than putting 12pts of upgrades on things.

Most Slave builds I see tend to be double Slave, and I don't play Imperials so can't comment much on other options. The YT-2400 is usually run as either Fat Dash + support or Leebo + Chewie. Fat Dash is usually Outrider, Heavy Laser Cannon, Push the Limit, Kyle Katarn and Engine Upgrade, usually supported by a couple of Z's or sometimes Corran Horn (VI, Fire Control and R2-D2).
