My first sci-fi video. Sanguinary Guard in 720pHD. Check it

Hi folks!
Sorry, last time I paint sci-fi rarely (but a lot of fantasy stuff)
Anyway, check my ver of Sanguinary Guard.
Its 1 of 5, so there will be four more.
I don`t like standart pure white\bright gold scheme so I have modified it with violet hue.
Quiet gold color choosed to make it look ancient.

Pics is big, so I will put them under spoiler

Best,
Sergey

Superb. I don't dare guess how long it would take for a novice to paint that scheme

That is a sublime paint job. The violet works wonders to soften the mini and the gold is the perfect companion to it.

I'd hate to think of the time, but also the cost to get that commissioned!!

The painting is really well executed, but I don't understand the blending on the gold. I mean to say it is the position of the highlights and shadowing doesn't make any sense.

Also the contrast between the smooth blends on the wings and the "light" lines on the gold make the model even more confusing.

Overall despite being well painted, the gold armour seems not that well conceived.

Thanks to everybody.

I like the highlights, very experimental. It gives the gold a sense of 'depth' which really compliments the sculpted musculature. It's very textural and I like it. And even then, on the battlefields of 40k, there's no telling where any sort of light is coming from, he might be in a huge factorum with spotlights everywhere, surrounded my massive blazing ordinance batteries, or immersed in a warpstorm with who knows what kind of lighting. Really gets the imagination going. (Well, mine at least) The only thing I don't like about it is how you applied it to the chest. Looks a little scratchy in comparison to the rest of the gold. And as far as the difference goes between the wings and gold, the wings don't seem to have a reflective surface, not confusing to me.

Actually, I guess where my theory doesn't hold water is the uniformity of the gems. With so many light sources creating that effect of the highly reflective gold, the gems would be a little haphazard too.

I love that you are trying something new, not enough people throw caution to the wind and just try something (worse thing that happens is that it looks bad).

I hope that I didn't offend, I just figure that you (the same way that I do) would prefer honest feedback.

I'm keen to see what the other four will look like.

Looks great! I love the technique on the breast plate. Yeah, the lighting sources are varied but I'm impressed. That's some steady, straight-lined brush work you got there.

Incredible! Some amazing talent on show there. I like the purple hue, makes a good change and fits nicely. I wish I could paint this good!

As has been said, the highlighting is amazing - it looks MORE 3D than the model is in real life - the face in particular looks awesome and the wings have incredible depth.
