If your Warlord is in Reserve and he has, say, a trait that allows you to reroll Reserve Rolls, or the trait that gives your army Move Through Cover (Ruins), is that rule in effect while he is off the board? I have heard people argue that since the model is not on the battlefield, it's not granted (which I understand), but most of these rules state "as long as the Warlord is alive", which he is even if he is in Reserves.

I guess it becomes a question of, in general, do models with rules apply to the board state when they are off the table. Or does it implicitly need permission to do so. My opinion on it is yes, I believe this particular rule wouldn't require him to be on the table but I could be wrong. Can't wait to see the answers.

If the rule simply requires the warlord to be alive, then he is most certainly alive while in reserves.
