I have play around a bit with my Ork list, and I wanted to try something new. I usually run Speed Freak. I can't really run Green tide because of my lack of boyz. So I decided to try myself at a Gunline. here we go:
What are the 20 boyz for? You said you were aiming for gunline, but this list seems a little confused. On the one hand you've got the SAGs, the Aegis, and kannons. But then the BWs with (???) whatever in them, and the trukks with bustas, both definitely mechanized and in the bustas case assaulty.
The Tankbustas are gonna go in the battlewagon. 12 spot in it because of the killkannon. That does quite a bit of Dakka, and can move forward turn 3+ to cap objective in Eternal War. The 2 trukk are taken as dedicated by Shoot boyz. They won't be in it. Once again, trukk are for objective late game. The 40 boyz will be behind the Aegis and shoot away. Late game they can move forward to cap.
First time I try such a list, what would you suggest for a true gunline?
Okay, lemme take a look piece by peice:
Meks with SAGs. Not a bad choice, but they need to be put in a unit with someone. Not shoota boys, because they want to be able to shoot at vehicles, something that the shootas are worthless against. Perhaps try sticking them in with a unit of lootas. Also, give them at least one ammo runt. For the snake eyes. Also, a BP if they go with lootas for the morale.
Shoota boys: make them 30 man blobs, if you can. That way, you can maximize the shooting, as well as mob rule.
Tank bustas are cool, no doubt. I have no beef with them. The only thing I'd look askew at them for it that they are shorter range that a lot of things the orks get. That being said, theyll definitely keep those vehicles away from your regular boyz.
The battle wagons are kool, but giving them a killkannon AND tankbustas makes them a juicy target. I'm not saying its necessarily a bad idea, but be careful with managing cover and facings, because your opponent will really want to kill them.
No beef with the defense line.
Maybe instead of taking trukks you could take a unit of grots. BS 3 on the quad gun. Since you'll have theoretically a bunch of boys on your side of the board for objective, those trukk points might be better spent elsewhere, like adding more bodies or cool upgrades
All right, let me tweak some stuff. I imagine I could put 2 squad of Lootas, drop the 2 battlewagon. Then, I put the SAG in the lootas squad. 1 Blob of 30 Boyz with shoota for the mid game push, 1 squad of grethin manning the gun. Finally, Tankbustas can pick the Trukk instead.
I used to run a SAG in a Unit of KillKannons they are all AP2 and blasts so they will be shoot at ground targets. They both protect each other well.
Give your Big Meks, BP and Git Finders (can't move anyway) and Heavy Armor or Bikes.
Have Grots man the Quad Gun like he suggested. They shoot Better.
Switch the Big Shootas for Rokkits. MathHammer shows that hey are more killy. Don't waste points on TL shoota, the normal is free and if you miss a S4 AP- shot it doesn't matter.
You can't go wrong with Tank Bustas and BW protect them nicely. Also I am a big fan of Killkannons. Love them.
