Maybe it was an old edition of Codex Apocalypse, but I thought big guys like Titans and Stompas could only be locked in combat with other superheavies, but not basic infantry or regular-size dreadnoughts.
But now looking through the BRB, I can't find that line under any heading. It just says to treat them like a Walker with some additional rules. Could a half-dozen marines seriously tie up a Warhound for 2+ rounds of combat? Am I completely making up rules? HWYPI?

Yes.

Presumably for the same reason that a Hive Tyrant feels honour-bound to accept a challenge from a ...well, anybody, really.

The current close combat rules don't make a lot of sense.

Fair enough. It doesn't completely wreck my tactics or anything.

But can someone please confirm that this wasn't always the case? Why do I think SH Walkers couldn't be locked in combat? Did they gain the Stomp attacks to make up for this?

Prior to Escalation (I believe) they couldn't be. I (personally) believe it was a partial attempt at balance - locking Knights in combat is one way of dealing with them (although Stomp makes it difficult to keep them there long).

The original Appocalypse rules for Super Heavy Walkers was they could not be locked in combat. That has changed.

Slight correction. They could not be locked in combat except by other super-heavy walkers or gargantuan creatures.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

It was funny when my lone Deffkopta was charged by a knight and lived through a round of combat. If only I'd made my hit and run roll it would've been perfect, (And my opponent didn't forget anything, he did all attacks, stomps, and HoW)

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
Keep on rolling
