Hey everyone, its been a really long time since i've played WHFB (back when vampire counts, tombkings were still lumped together as undead) I have been thinking about jumping in when 9th edition pops up but I have been hearing negative response from the community about it, how many of you will be in for 9th edition and why?

Anytime is a great time to get back into fantasy! Honestly, people are going to complain before there is a new release, but it will change, and it will be for the better. 9th edition will be coming around soon, and to be honest a lot of people still will play 8th along with 9th, so you'll always have players. 8th edition is an amazing amount of fun and I can't remember a time that warhammer fantasy has been so good.
Jump back into the old world whIle it falls.

Nobody knows what changes are in store for 9th. So far a lot of noise surrounding a small amount of rumors. Just got to wait for it to release and see if it's still worthwhile.

I can help remind you. 6th was tons of fun: there was no more herohammer (5th), and we hadn't gotten into broken books like 7th daemons or Skaven (still broken). 6th was a time of near equality across the board. God, I miss it.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

God, I miss it. I was looking at my old 6e Empire book. I do miss that edition sometimes. Then I remember how 5 chaos knights broke the world, and suddenly, I'm glad we don't play it.

5 chaos Knights...I remember those. I used a squad of 5 pistoliers to veer them off (they were Khorne) and set up a charge with my own Knights. Glorious times smashing them!!

It really wasn't. I have the rulebook here. It's a book of flaws riddled with rules. It had good fluff though.

Its biggest flaw was that cavalry was awesome. If ten Knights crashing into a block of 20 troops and murdering it with lances and flailing hooves is more wrong than "elves attacked by Knights hit before lances cuz elves fast!!", then I don't want to be right.

Maybe why I liked 6th through 8th is because my two armies are Brets and HE. Either way I have a kickass army.\
Anyway, as to the OP -normally i would say jump right in but End Times and the 9th rumors really make this a very uncertain time, more so than any other edition change I can think of in my 25+ years of playing. In this case I would hold off until 9th is released. You don't want to buy an army that gets a major overhaul or dropped and who knows how individual units will pan out.
Until GW does something to address these rumors (and they never do) I would wait.

If you don't care about the fluff, characters, nations, factions, and units that make up Warhammer Fantasy and you just want to buy blocks of GW models to move around a board, go for it, leap right in now. If you're interested in WHFB because, you know, it's WHFB then I'd keep your powder dry, given that they've just literally blown up the whole Warhammer World and eradicated everyone and everything in it and so we've no idea even which armies are going to be in 9th or what models will still be for sale.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |
