Ruins say that models get cover without being 25% covered. Does this apply to vehicles as well.
I assumed it did until I played with my friend last week who thought that it might not. I couldn't find any specifications about vehicles in ruins.

Does anyone know where that would be? Or what the ruling is?

The rules for vehicles specifically say they only get cover saves from 25% obscurement. Ruins would need to specifically say they get around this restriction to give them cover with out restrictions

Check 'Vehicles and Cover - Obscured Targets', second bullet point in the 'Vehicles' section of the rulebook.

The real question is weather it is volume or just height?

I've faced reaver titans trying to get cover because their legs were behind a building.

Not really. The rule clearly states that 25% of the facing needs to be obscured.

Yeah, 'toe-in' is a bad rule, but page "108, Ruins". If I was a TO, I'd HouseRule that titans don't get it.

Titans can easily get cover from ruins. Many of them have quite large legs and since we aren't given a specific method to determine 25% we must assume its physical surface area. And many walkers easily have 25% of their mass in their legs.

What about flying monstrous creatures that are swooping and just the edge of their base is barely in the ruins. No physical obscurement. Does it get cover even though it is flying through the air and every model on the board can totally see every part of the model clearly?

Sorry if this is not the right thread for this, but it made me think of a game I played a few days ago where the player would not back down or show reference. Does anyone have a page reference, I can't find it anywhere? Or is it one of those, "it doesn't say I can't" rules?

Flying has no effect on how cover is determined. So FMC still get cover for touching terrain.

Monsterous Creatures gain cover the same way as infantry, which is either 25% obscurement or being within an area that has been defined to give cover to units within its area(area terrain)

So if a forest or a ruin's base has been defined to give its save to infantry who are within it area a swooping MC will gain the same save.

There is no such thing as a "it doesn't say I can't" rule, but there are rules which apply to everything in a general sense and special cases don't do anything to change that. Swooping or Zooming doesn't change how you gain cover.

Note that "Toe in/edge of base in" the ruin do not automatically grant the ruin cover save.

They have to be "wholey within" to receive the save without being obscured.

Or at least that how I interpret it.

Where in the rule do you see the term "wholly within"?
