Guys, I understand that the hyperios upgrade to the tarantula sentry gun loses the rule called Targeting, which effectively means it cannot preferentially fire at flyers and skimmers. My question is, if the thing is forced to auto target surface units if they are the closest then what is the point of this unit? Surely, unless you are facing a large amount of flyers, this unit will spend the majority of the game just firing snap shots at things like infantry and vehicles, which would make the unit a complete waste of time. What are your experiences with this unit? Do you find it any good or have the rules nerfed it somewhat?

IMO the rules are broken RAW* but RAI is that the hyperios upgrade removes the forced targeting entirely and you can choose any target you like (though you still fire snap shots at ground targets).

*In multiple ways. The page includes a Targeting rule, but the unit doesn't have it in its profile. So technically by RAW you're never forced to fire at any particular target no matter what weapon the sentry gun is armed with.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Yeh you can target any unit you wish as there is no rule forcing you to target anything.
In fact, what would even be the point in the optional split fire upgrade by changing the third one if you were forced to fire at the nearest target?
