Hi Dakka! I've written up a friendly list to take on my local meta with. My opponents are generally Drop Pod Space Wolves, mechanized Nurgle, a Green Tide-esque Ork list, and footslogging Loyalist Imperial Fists (Sternguard Spam). One guy brings an IG Armored Company, but he's kind of an donkey-cave anyway.

So, this is what I've got for your review:

HQ:
Lord (Power Sword, Sigil, Mark of Slannesh, Gift of Mutation)

Notes: I really like this guy. He's cheap, he's efficient, and he surprises me sometimes with what he kills. He's killed Kharn in CC before and will consistently put up a good fight.

Elites:
Chaos Terminators:
X4 Terminators (LC/LC, Gift of Mutation)
-MoS
-Icon of Excess
->Land Raider (Dirge Caster)

Notes: I have the nice Forgeworld models for these Terminators. I love my Land Raider as not many people in my meta are packing heavy armor killers anymore.

Chaos Chosen:
X5 Meltaguns
->Rhino (Dirge Caster, Combi-Melta)

Notes: I prefer these guys with Meltaguns because of the IG player, and sometimes the Ork player brings Battlewagons. Additionally, the Mech Nurgle player also brings Land Raiders, which I have had a hard time popping previously.

Troops:
Chaos Space Marines:
Power Weapon
Mark of Slannesh
X2 Meltaguns
->Chaos Rhino (Dirge Caster, Combi-Melta)

Notes: See Chosen. These guys are also a nice QRF/bully unit if needed.

Noise Marines:
X2 Blast Masters

Notes: Nice and shooty. Puts the pain on the I. Fists player.

Cultists:

Notes: Objective Holders.

Fast Attack:
Chaos Bikers:
X2 Meltaguns
-Mark of Slannesh

Notes: This is a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX squad. Either they zip up the board and pop a Leman Russ/hit a Tactical Squad in CC, or suck fire that would go towards other things.

Helldrake: 170

Notes: Pretty self explanatory.

Heavy Support:
Maulerfiend: 125
Maulerfiend: 125

Notes: Maulerfiends are great distraction units and do pretty well in hitting things in close combat. Plus, I confess that I love the dinobots.

X2 Obliterators: 140

Notes: These guys have fantastic utility.

Are my notes on point? Is there anything I can do to improve my list?

Thanks!

I like the list a lot it's different than the usual nurgle marine armies in so used to seeing. The only thing is arent you wasting points on the dirge casters considering you can't really charge from a rhino also you should put demonic possession on your land raider yeah there is a 1/6 chance each turn it could eat a guy and heal a HP but it can also ignore crew shaken and such on a 2+ roll well worth it when you need a lascannon or two.

Thanks man! Do you really think I should put possession on the Land Raider when I have such a high priority squad in there? I'm afraid of having one of my important Terminators get eaten, or worse yet, my Lord.

Dirge casters are a very nice upgrade for any tank that will be transporting assaulting units. I'd leave them. I'd also not put Daemonic Possession on the Land Raider considering what it's transporting. AV 14 and 4 HP will be fine.

What's the general plan with the army? How does it generally play? Ie aggressive assault, defensive assault, balls to the wall assault

The general plan for the army is as such:

Deploy Obliterators somewhere where they have a commanding field of fire. Cultists chill on an objective, or in the case of games where this is unnecessary, hide. Lord goes in with the Terminators, who go in the Land Raider.

Land Raider, Rhinos, and Maulerfiends roll up the field aggressively, screening the bikes. My opponents generally shoot the Maulerfiends first, which gives time for the Land Raider at least to get into position to disgorge Terminators and wreck things. Since one of my most common opponents is a Crimson Fists Gunline player, these guys are hilariously effective. Chosen go armor hunting or MC hunting with the Bikes as backup. Noise Marines waltz up to midfield (or infiltrate if I get lucky on WL traits) and put the pain on infantry. Helldrake makes an excellent distraction or gunline breaker (in fact, last game he was instrumental in pushing Tau off of a backfield objective).

Basically, charge forward, saturate the field with threats, and hit hard when I get there. If the Maulerfiends manage to make it up the field without dying, they hit armor or high value targets like Crisis Suits. Alternatively, they can crack things like Land Raiders.

Thoughts?

And as a side note, there is nothing I find funnier than putting a Dirge Caster vehicle in front of a Tau gunline.
