Ender’s Game

The book Ender’s Game takes the topics of a Superman, and an interstellar war upon aliens. 7 years old, he is the subject of torment at school, as he is the Third, a violation of the 2 child policy that is instilled by the Hegemon, the ruling party on Earth. He receives a visit by Colonel Hyrum Graff after unknowingly mortally wounding a fellow classmate, who is a bully. After justifying his actions as “I couldn’t just win this battle, I had to win all the rest, too”, he is given a place at Battle School, where the children are trained to become fleet commanders. They need these commanders because the “buggers”, known as “Formics” in the movie, are going to invade Earth again in the Third Invasion. The First and Second Invasion were both repelled, the First easily, the Second barely. It was only through the tactical genius of Mazer Rackham, that the gigantic fleet of alien muscle was destroyed. He is then isolated by Colonel Graff, for Graff knows that the optimum environment for tactical genius is isolation. The fellow “Launchies” despising him, he quickly feels the need to prove himself. He slowly makes friends with Shen, a boy who is also isolated from the ingroup and Alai, who used to be Bernard, the “in” groups’ leader’s best friend. He is then transferred to Salamander Army, where Petra Arkanian, one of the only girls in Battle School, teaches him how to shoot, and Rat, where he learns strategy from Dink Meeker. During this period, he is constantly tormented by a game he plays. It is played on a “desk”, which during today would be the equivalent of an iPad or tablet. He cannot beat the Giant, who is always asking him to pick a drink, yet all of the drinks were poisonous, and he dies every time. Even after he beats the giant, he is haunted by how he did it; digging through the giant’s eye, killing it. He is then transferred to the rank of Commander, and receives an Army of his own, called Dragon. With it, he receives the newest and youngest launchies, and leads them to win every battle they face. Ender then is graduated to Command School, a couple of years too early. Here he turns depressed, and self-destructive. On earth, his two siblings, Valentine and Peter, start publishing political assays under the pseudonyms Locke, and Demosthenes, which are taken seriously by the Hegemon. Colonel Graff is informed of the writers’ identities, yet tells the Hegemon to keep quiet. Under the simulator, he fights battles and wins. His final test came to destroy a fleet outnumbering them 65 to 1. He manages to do this by blowing up the planet, taking with it the entire enemy fleet. He turns even more depressed when Graff reveals that there is no Third Invasion, and that the “simulator” actually controlled the human fleet that destroyed the buggers forever. Suicidal, he falls into a sort of coma for three days. As soon as he had defeated the buggers, the Russians had rebelled, and attacked the US. After the Russians accept the Locke proposal, which was wrote by Peter, his brother, he joins the colonists that would settle the bugger worlds. He finds a bugger Hive Queen cocoon, and through it he learns about the buggers’ history. The new Hegemon head, his brother Peter Wiggin, then tells Ender his life story, and he published the two histories as the Hive Queen and the Hegemon, and together they were holy writ, a religion. Then, Ender and his sister Valentine set out to find a home for the new Hive Queen away from humanity. They searched for a long time.
