…would you buy a used, dead army at a super-bargain price for use in other games or older versions of WHFB?

Personally, I'd strongly consider getting a second fantasy army as an opponent for my KoW bad-guys. If WHFB kills some factions I'm sure the FLGS auction will have some great deals.

People won't buy used WHFB armies now, they sure as hell won't buy them when they're dead.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

I'd certainly be tempted for nib stuff. I've never had an issue with GW's sculpts (well not for the most part), but the price has certainly been prohibitive compared to perry etc.

I'd love to get full skateboard and high elf armies done, maybe even some empire (with the progloria landsknechts added in for fun).

I'll absolutely buy used armies.

So...which armies are dying?

If I say some Fantasy on 50% or better off on clearance then I'd buy the odd kit to use for 40k conversions or Fantasy Skirmishes. As for whole GW armies, probably not as I don't hugely like the WFB style, and prefer Historicals/Mantic/LotR for my KoW stuff.

I've no idea. This poll is pure speculation on my part based on some of the rumors that have been flying around about 9th edition culling the number of factions. I haven't been following the rumors to carefully though, so if someone has more info, I'd love to know more.

People will buy used WHFB armies now.

They just won't pay anything near retail for stuff out of the starter sets, which have been split for years and years and years now.

A NIB chaos army again...man, I've sold a chaos warriors army twice now. And I'd buy it again for 9th, if it's a decent system. But if they don't work or are gone...nope. Maybe a few individual models, but I already have Archaon on foot, so...not much more needed beyond that!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

In general I have had an on-again/off-again relationship with TTWG and am currently not playing any kind.

I have always wanted to try out WHFB but could never settle on a specific army. I like Dwarves, Tomb Kings, and Lizardmen...which seem to all be the ones that are in the uncertain category of 9th. So, basically, no, I would not play an army that isn't getting support.

For me the appeal of a supported army is getting updated by new rules/models. I also want to be able to buy what I need, not what is available to me by resale. Yes I could go to a third party miniatures company for some of these models...and I am sure they are going to be cranking out desired minis when the fog of 9th finally lifts. That might be something for me to consider when I have more time/money.

As it stands though, if they are dead/unsupported then I won't bother.

I'm back!

The problem is as soon as ebay sellers can put OOP NIB on the description it triples in price :/

Bargains are not to be had

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I might find it hard to part with anything I actually painted (it was a lot of sleepless nights getting those troop blocks together!) Plus, my WHFB Empire was always the awkward middle child of my painting skills. My first army (40k orks), I was just happy to put paint on the model; my more recent stuff actually looks decent; but with WHFB, I was just trying out stuff and a lot of it didn't work out.

But anything on the sprue or NIB I'm probably going to unload.

Orks - "Da Rust Gitz" : 3000 pts
Empire - "Nordland Expeditionary Corps" : 3000 pts
Dwarfs - "Sons of Magni" 2000 points
Cygnar - "Black Swan" 100 pts
Trollbloods - "The Brotherhood"
Haqqislam- "Al-Istathaan": 300 points
Commonwealth - Desert Rats /2nd New Zealand 1000 points

I have a set amount of money for when this does happen. Even if its not a dead army, i'm sure a lot of armies that are still viable will be sold off in rage of 9th.

I'm kinda hoping that someone sells off their daemons, I want daemons but jesus they cost three kidneys to even start.

There is not this idea.

If the price was decent, sure. I like the painting and modeling, so...

I ain't about to sell anything myself.

Absolutely.

Edition changes are my favourite time to be playing wargames. It takes a certain amount of time for everyone to acclimatise to big changes. The meta is thrown into complete upheaval, and it's a really fun time to be part of the competitive scene when everyone is pushing to test / break the system in new and interesting ways. You see people trying out all sorts of wacky lists, strategies, and combinations that you won't see once the meta settles down and everyone gets a better understanding of what does and doesn't work. But for that brief window of time chaos will reign.

Of course not everyone is up for that sort of activity, and many people will simply get frustrated that their old tried-and-true strategies don't work anymore. Those are the sorts of people you see rage-quitting in spectacular and violent fashion on the internet, and dumping all of their models onto the internet at firesale prices. You can bet that I'll be on there looking for bargains. Even if armies get squatted, I'm confident enough in my converting and greenstuffing ability to shoehorn them into whatever faction I'm wanting for other reasons. I'll buy more Tomb Kings models to piece out for whatever Undead faction survives into the new edition. If they can lizardmen then I'll just turn them into counts-as "Humans" or "Elves," or whatever else fits better. The sky is the limit so long as you have enough plasticard and epoxy putty.

I would, I'm a 40k player but I envy quite a few of the fantasy sculpts. Conversion time... Though it might be what gets me to start fantasy on the other hand...

Absolutely! I'd use them for 40k conversions all day long. Especially orkses. But only if the price gets lower than 40k 2-d hand stuff.
