My absolute favorite piece is Mantle of the Champion by Sam Wood (it's my avatar pic ). It's from Horus Heresy: Collected Visions.
I also really like Hands of the Emperor, also by Sam Wood (This is actually a compilation of several Custodes and Sisters of Silence images, I think Hands of the Emperor is the one in the middle with the Emperor in it). The image is probably too large so I'll leave a link: http://wh40kart.im/_images/13d8ef7553e9afb73462e679004330a7.jpg
There's also this pic of the Great Crusade but I don't know the artist (let me know if you know!)
The covers for The Damnation of Pythos, Shadows of Treachery, and The First Heretic, all by Neil Roberts, are also great:
All of Beckjann's Dark Eldar art is friggin amazing:
And finally some of the art from the new Harlequin codex is just mindblowing .
btw, if anyone knows the artist of the first Harlequin pic, please let me know!
I have other favorites but there's just too much
This is great as well. Do you know the artist?

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.
I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.
My hands. They, too, are golden. |

This piece of art was what made me favour the Imperial Fists... I have no idea who the artist behind this is, but pretty much anything by the person/those personalities are my favourites. It just presents the universe in a gritty, realistic, but still really retro-futuristic and, you know, 40k'ish way I really like.

Thanks! I actually stumbled upon that page earlier today while distractedly browsing deviantart for hours (!) but thank you all the same
So much great art on there! Found some great Eldar art by Heebster:
And this piece by KoTnoneKoT
Ilqar also has some very decent Great Crusade era Space Marine art (pretty much has all the legions covered):
DiegoGisbertLlorens has loads of great 40k art (lots of them in the RPG books):
I also really like this piece by nachomolina:
Btw, does anyone know where this is from?

Ah, thanks brother! I've just been reading the CSM codex for Chaos stuff. It's too bad they don't usually write who the artist is. I've been stumbling upon a lot of the art from the Dark Heresy RPG on Deviantart lately and its always a pleasant surprise to find the artist.
And yea, I really like John Blanche's art as well!
Oh btw I've started reading The First Heretic, good stuff! Could be the best 40k novel I've read!

The stuff in the Harlequin dex all looks pretty awesome from what I've seen. Massive improvement from the Necron stuff.
I really like all the plates for the different legions in the HH books, as well as the ink art for the Primarchs/characters. And the big two page pieces they had near the front of the 6th ed Codexes were almost universally fantastic, I loved the one in the Tau dex of the tanks and suits dropping into the city at night, and the Eldar one with the Iyanden army against...orks?

Yea, the art from the Harlequin codex is just wow!
Next level stuff! (which makes sense, the one with the Harlequins fighting Emperor's Children marines took the artist 4 months to make! So worth it).
And yea, the FW stuff is amazing. I would include stuff like this among my favorites:
The Tau piece and the Iyanden are also fantastic. And yea, they were fighting Orks.
This is also pretty cool:

Everything Adrian Smith has done is awesome, however his Chaos stuff reigns supreme for me, particularly the splash pages in C: CSM 3E. Even above his AdMech stuff in Inquisitor, which is saying something! If I had to pick just one of Adi's CSM works, this is it: - Salvage
