Burn Retros: Do you have to use this special order every turn or if you do it once can you remain motionless afterwards without using this special order.

I assume that you need to use it each turn but on the other hand, once your ship is stopped, why would you have to roll to stop again?

It came up in a game last night and seeing as how i've played maybe 5 BFG games, i thought i'd ask here.

I didn't see anything about this in the FAQ on the specialist website.

Burn retro's should be used every turn (at least thats how i've always played it). If you want a fluffy reason, the ships captain cannot shut the engines down, since that would shut down power to life support, manoevering thrusters, weapons, etc. Thus as soon as the retro's shut down (at the end of the turn that you played the Burn Retro's special order) the main engines would power the ship forward again at its normal speed, thus you revert to the normal movement rules unless you again issue the Burn Retro's order

i agree with you totally, no other special order lasts more than a turn but my opponent thought that it would last for the game until he wanted to move again. It was pretty neat to have a carrier hide behind a gas cloud and just launch wave after wave of ordinance with out having to worry about moving.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

If you Burn Retros to a stop you have stopped, you dont need Burn Retro orders to stay still and you can still remain still on Reload, Lock On or Brace orders.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

BFG rules, "Turn Sequence", 1. Movement Phase - "Note that ships must always move at least half their speed unless they wish to use the Burn Retros special order in order to hold position."

BFG rules, "Basic Moves", 1st section - "Note that a player has to move his ships unless they use the Burn Retros special order to remain stationary."

Since special orders don't last the whole game, Burn Retros does not halt your ship for the whole game.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
