So I'm having another whack at a list I'll mainly be playing in WFB.
I don't need this list to be over comp - I do need it to be ok'ish.
So at 997pts I got 20 plague bearers, 6 nurgle beasts, one flying prince, one GUO.
The Prince flys up with a mark of chaos to lay down all this junk safely (and I like deep strike some of the beasts backfield?). He then flies around vectoring and shooting spells, combating only if grounded (right? cos he he cant switch to assault mode b4 neing shot to death / back to the warp / whatever). GUO, beasts and plague focus on never dying. Is this ok? How much do daemon players usually DS?
+ HQ (235pts) +
Great Unclean One (235pts) [D6 Daemonic Reward, Psyker Level 2]
+ Elites (312pts) +
Beast of Nurgle (156pts) [3x Beasts]
Beast of Nurgle (156pts) [3x Beasts]
+ Troops (180pts) +
Plaguebearers of Nurgle (90pts) [10x Plaguebearers]
Plaguebearers of Nurgle (90pts) [10x Plaguebearers]
+ Heavy Support (270pts) +
Daemon Prince (Heavy) (270pts) [Daemon of Nurgle, Daemonic Flight, Mastery 2, Warp-forged Armour]

Just a thought - is there anything stopping me from gong 24" zoom turn 1 and dumping everything on opponents door step? Is this a good idea?

well you can't 'zoom' (swoop) then assault next turn. Its still probably a good option. Everything is so slow with nurgle.
it depends what you are up against but I would glide the prince forward, hugging line of sight blocking cover, deep strike the GUO and one unit of plaguebearers, and probably run forward with the beasts as they're fast right?
Aim for a Turn 3 assault.
"The Prince flys up with a mark of chaos to lay down all this junk safely " not sure what this means.

I know and am comfy with the fact he will have to wait a turn prior to charging. I do similar things with Flyrants.
Beasts could run. GUO plan sounds good. My point was - DS scatter fills me with fear - I want to use an icon of chaos to dump them all in a precision strike.
Sure its one turn of rapid fire to the face - but then its all good killin from then on.

Plague drones are a pretty good way of getting an icon upfield for DS shenannigans and they are also one of the best Nurgle units if you take them in big blobs.

True - but the cost alot of £££ and are a touch mediocre in WFB. Nice models though.
I think plague drones would be the professionals choice if I'm being honest - though the DP has much to recommend it - espc as it can vector flyers and is much more sturdy YMMV.
The essence of a flyrant rush is that you opponent goes 'oh no' and shoots everything at it (similarly Zooming Nurgle DPs are basically un-killable untill they land unless > battery of flak missles ect).
The icon means you are S***ing out units right on their line, plaguebearers, beast, GUO - the Demon prince is buffing/debuffing/causing trouble - lands T2 for Punch up T3.
While this is going on you backfeild PBs are moving in a thin line across the battlefield linking up your objectives. Is you enemy going to be able to deal with you right in their grill and have time to claim battlefield objectives/even survive?
Holes in this plan
- DP is shot down T1 - everything badly scatters doing normal DS
- Backfeild BPs are killed by counter DS or flankers (Your DP retains the speed to return to midfield and deal with the issues on T3-4-5)
- Your oppnent shoots you off the board T1 prior to having things rain down - (you are shrouded PBs in cover / Beasts and zooming DB though).
- Last night I was playing Nids and a force weapon Liberian basically started f***ing up my big monsters L/R/C - Deamons are better at not dieing than big monsters - but still a concern.

I have a suggestion which may prove useful. The daemon prince can zoom or fly and when he lands you can jink for a 2+ cover save (4+ from jink then 2+ from nurgle shrouding). He can jink whether or not he is in the air because ALL FLYING MONSTROUS CREATURES gain the jink special rule.
It does not say flying monstrous creatures that are currently flying get it. So you can jink whenever the hell you want. Because of this you can either move 12" per turn (more beneficial in certain missions and deployments) or just fly then land and jink to your hearts content. If someone is stupid enough to charge you rather than shoot then you can begin to murder them. I believe they have defensive grenades as well.
If you want to make the DP literally unkillable give him 2 greater rewards and chances are you will get the 4+ FNP or the other awesome defensive rewards (reroll invul, +1 Wound IWND, lazer beam eyes, fleshbane+armorbane etc.).
If someone tries to fight you on the jinking refer them to this 7th edition ruleset. As the rule from 6th was no jink and now it has become always jink in any mode.

Thanks PB,
Re-evaluating it - the Winged Nurgle DP is really quite a beast - due to the turn having to wait between Swoop/Glide, I think Id fly it straight on glide - no 6s to hit hit but on a 2+ cover and poss FNP / IWND I think Id be fine and also well lined up for Turn 2 assault. Statistically one of my GUO would also land on that turn creating alot of near-in aggression. The strategy would turn into a 'pile-on' of slime so to speak.
Still some DS anxiety but hopefully it'll be ok.

A second Daemon Prince would be a better choice over a second GUO. As stated above, you can Jink while you're Gliding, so Nurgle Princes have a 2+ cover out in the open. If you're not having to deal with ignores cover, jumping to their front door can be more flexible than swooping in. All other models should be abusing cover as much as possible.
I don't know what kind of disciplines you're aiming for, but this sort of lineup synergizes well with Biomancy. You really want Iron Arm on your GUO and Princes, with Endurance as a close second, and Warp Speed or Enfeeble next. Basically things to keep your psykers and nearby units as "healthy" as possible.
If you go the Bio route, your Monstrous Creatures and Beasts become field bullies, clearing paths for your troops to secure objectives. I've played similar and generally reserve my plaguebearers to bring in on turn 2+ for your backfield objectives, while disrupting their backfield with your big guys.
Ignores Cover is the bane of Nurgle. Be prepared to switch tactics.

Best way to run daemon princes is to go all out:
Nurgle, Power Armour, Wings, 2x Greater Reward, Mastery Level 3 (either fishing for invisibility or iron arm)
This gives you the maximum chance of either:
having 4+ FnP
having T8
or being invisible
And if the stars align (or you take 3 princes) you get one that has both of these awesome buffs and he wrecks face all game.
Now you can also take lash princes and fateweaver if you would rather just circle around overhead summoning daemonettes onto maelstrom objectives and lashing the backs of enemy vehicles but where's the fun in that, you might as well play penta-Tyrants at that point.

Yeah you're right - Will swap big Daemons and just deal with the accusations of cheese as and when I hear them. I did think about going 1 = Bio + 1 = Something more offensive like Nurg powers - but meh - I have to have a think about it. Leaning to 2xbio.

Yeah - I actually play Tyranids and own money with which to acquire lots of flyrants - but you know, you look in the mirror at that point.
Your build looks filthy though I'd probably pick up change by dropping power armour and considering carefully about either mastery 3 or 2 GR.
Monster mash nurg looks stronger than I expected at this point. I actually 1/2 way though modelling alot of the beasts/prince myself with milliput n GS.
Thanks of advice you 2.

Power armour is a must as it doubles your survivability vs ignores cover weaponry and close combat attacks. T5 isn't incredible and theres quite a lot of ignores cover stuff out there (Wave Serpents, Guard Orders, Perfect Timing etc).
The way I look at psychic powers is that unless your making lash prince and just want the telepathy primaris, you're spending 300 points on a model so you might as well buy him the extras (life leech, endurance, warp speed and iron arm are all great powers).
Of course Bel'kor is the best daemon prince by far (although he is not nurgle themed so you might avoid him), Armourbane, Eternal Warrior, 4++, Invisibility. What a boss.

You make a compelling argument - though local meta is not too focussed on the current tableau of 7thed ignores cover nonsense - I find the games where my ears prick up for a challenge (and I would like to win) (Eldar/Tau mostly) do.
Bel'kor is a beast - He's certainly the stronger choice, but I just... I just don't want him. I just don't and he deserves better.
I will take dat lvl 3 psychic though - reading through bio table again - its just brutal man.
