Me and a few frends of mine decided to start play 40K, we dicided to make an unbound army to start whith.
Here's my list

The swarmlord
285 points

Hormagaunt Brood
10X Hormagaunts
All toxin sacs
80 points

Ravener Brood
3X Raveners
All rending claws and Deathspitter
135 points

I was going to have Wariors instead of the Raveners but when i got the Hormagaunts, the shop i order at offerd me the Raveners at 80%off so I got them instead
Any advice on what I should get next to expand, or to change this list?

I have played against Tyranids a lot and the units I fear the most are: Flying hive tyrant w/ twin-linked devourers x2 and Mawlocs.

I think you should decide if you want to play a swarm army or one more focused around large monstrous creatures.

Also, The Swarmlord may do well in the new Tyrannocite (drop pod basically) to get him in close.

Also be wary of synapse and how to maintain it if you take a lot of gribbly units.

I would avoid the Tervigon and swarms of Termigants... every time I play against it I always take it out and it slaughters all the units around it... doesn't seem very good to me.

Hope that helps!

At 500pts the Swarmlord shouldn't be anywhere near your head. A Flyrant is also dreadfully expensive and I'd say a bit dickish to bring at a 500pt game. I like a walking Tyrant with a Heavy Venom Cannon and a Tyrant Guard, but that is steeped in personal preference and there is no question that a Flyrant is better. I just know I wouldn't be happy playing against one at 500pts.

Raveners have a place, but it's again not in 500pts. You need Synapse that can also move 12". Flyrants for example. They have next to no Leadership and so they would be Instinctive the entire time. Very useless without building your list around them.

If you insist on running the Raveners, you need two more minimum and Flyrant support. They are not durable models, so use terrain and a Venomthrope for as long as that little bugger can keep up on Run rolls.

I can't actually think of a way to include the Raveners until 750pts. I'd say just stick to the tried and true Tyrant of your flavor, Gribblies of your flavor, Carnifex with two Devourer w/ Brainleech Worms to begin with and then look at the other specialty bugs at 750 and beyond.

Deep-striking ripper swarms are pretty cool.

Deep Striking Rippers would actually be one of the more useful options simply because of how screwed the objectives could make you. Termagants are always helpful, and Zoanthropes should be very high on your priority list. Maybe even higher than Warriors since you are playing Unbound anyway.

Well, here is a basic list for 500 that does only a little, but still can win games...

It's Battle forged so you get the special rules (re-roll Warlord Trait, Objective Secured for Troops)

Winged Dakka'rant: Wings, Twin Brain Leeches, Thorax hive: Electro grubs...240

Warrior Brood, x3, Strangle Cannon... 100

Termagant Brood, x20 80
Termagant Brood, x20... 80

That's 500 even with three Objective Secured Troops, some decent shooting, and a Winged Tyrant.

Once you start adding take a good look at adding Carnafexen (Brain Leeches) and Mawlocs. Both do very well against a wide range of foes.

I personally like Tyranofex, with Acid Spray, and a Thorax hive, in low point games it is almost unkillable.

In any case, good luck! And welcome to the Hive Mind!

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER
