Hi there!

I love the modelling aspect of the hobby moreso than the gaming aspect, so I don't really mind this not being a valid gameplay tactic, and this is an idea I've had for a long time that I'd love to implement. If Clanrats had access to slings I'd have used them for this project, but alas...

Anyway, I love Clan Skryre and my idea was representing Skryre Skavenslaves with slings by giving them muskets. They're slaves so perhaps they've been given realllllllly shoddy-quality guns to represent the sling statline.

Anyway, the question I have is how to best model the clanrat/slave bodies to do this. Empire handguns are pricey and don't include the left arm, so that's out. I recently snagged some rifle arms from the Dwarven Ironwatch unit from Kings of War - dirt cheap on ebay. But upon arrival, I discovered that the arms are too far apart at the shoulder to slap onto a skaven body and call it a day - there'd be a big gap. The rifles themselves are shrimpy compared to ones from WFB, [even with each having a scope] so would fit well as slave weapons compared to the magnificent sniper-rifles the Jezzail teams have.

Any ideas on how I could go about this? Is there a miniatures range out there where I could snag inexpensive muskets to give my cannon fodder, or should I tweak the Kings of War arms?

Thanks!

North of your position

Aren't there flintlock pistols included in the Stormvermin kit?

Nope, what you're thinking of is a conversion from the army book using Empire parts.

And Empire pieces wouldn't be cost-effective enough for 40-ish slaves.

Hence why I'm seeking alternatives.

Can't help but think that clanrats would get the muskets sooner than the slaves. Seems that skavenslaves with slings are based on the skirmishing dirt-eating-peasant slingers with no 'proper' equipment, of some ancient armies.

On that note, look to historical sets? I see some guy has a few leftover plastic Napoleonic muskets on ebay uk, just as an example. Could pay to look and ask around some historical players.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Kroot can be found fairly inexpensively on ebay as theyre not an optimal choice?
The rifles are a little long but could work with some chopping down?

I was gonna hold off on Kroot rifles for if I ever bite the bullet and use them as a basis for jezzails.

I discovered that the rifles arms from the zulu warriors from Wargames factory would probably work. Inexpensive and I could even sculpt fur on them.

I agree with Vermis - just look on eBay for bits sales from historical gamers.

Given that slings are relatively short range, I'd have thought a short-barrelled weapon would be a better representation, so a flintlock pistol would certainly be one option. But maybe too flash to give to mere slaves?

Or a short musket, i.e. the ancient equivalent of a sawn-off shotgun? That might suit slave weaponry better, especially if they're crudely made, i.e. pretty much a tiny hand-held cannon stuffed with a powder charge and whatever shrapnel is close to hand. That also gives more modelling options, e.g. pretty much any gun or crossbow hands and stock, with a plasticard 'musket' tube glued on top.

A few crude blunderbus in the front rank with the odd slave or two carrying barrels, buckets of nails etc would be a pretty solid representation without having to convert the whole unit.
