Hi,
Here is a new proposed rule (or an improvement to a current rule): Squig hounds being able to attack enemies. Here is what the 5th edition entry looks like.

A squig hound is a fierce breed of squig trained to devour errant grots on command. Each time a unit with a squig hound fails a Morale test it may remove D3 Gretchin models to reroll that morale test.

Here is what the rule should look like:

A squig hound is a fierce breed of squig trained to devour errant grots on command. Each time a unit with a squig hound fails a Morale test it may remove D3 Gretchin models to reroll that morale test. It may also attack an enemy and adds +1 to the runtherd's attacks.

What do you guys think?

Since this rule does not exist, how would Squig Hounds refrain from attacking the enemy?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Why would they always hit on 3+, even against WS10?

Really, why would it do that? The only thing I can see it doing is adding an extra attack to the runtherd, nothing implies that it should be any good at hitting stuff. Why is a squig more likely to hit the Avatar than a space marine captain?

OK, let's take out the hitting on 3+ thing and just give the runtherd an extra attack. OP updated

I honestly don't see why it's necessary.

Care to explain then why redesigning the rules for a single piece of wargear that affects one less-than-average model in the game is necessary?

Your Runtheard's WS4. Including the bonus from the Squig he now has 3 attacks. Against Marines that's a 1/6 chance to kill a Marine vs 1/9 without the bonus. This upgrade isn't going to do much at all.

So now I see why it can devour errant grots on command and only do that.

Ok, the rule is good as it is without the addon.

However a unit of Squig-wielding Grots led by a Runtherd could be a cool idea with a special rule where the Squigs have a chance to devour their green masters of course
