I... actually don't know. Help?

I just bought a box of Stormboyz, and they look awesome. They have good stats and a low points cost, and I thought of this: How about having an Ork force centered around Stormboyz? I'd use Boyz for troops, Zagstruk+a Warboss as HQ's (a big mek? I'd love me some Grot Tanks). Would it work? I myself would love to have Orks that can travel up to 36 inches a turn.

To Valhall! ~2800 points

The central problem you'll face is that stormboyz are no tougher (or shootier or choppier) than ordinary boyz, but cost a lot more. So you need distractions and other threats to stop your opponent simply blasting your stormboyz to dust before they reach combat.

Some players have success with a combined Green Horde and Stormboyz, i.e. Stormboyz hiding behind ordinary boyz as they run forwards, and only using their jump packs in the turn that they and the boyz assault, thus maximising numbers during that first assault.

Others use Stormboyz more sneakily, jumping from cover to cover, and concentrating on flank attacks. Here the Stormboyz themselves are the distraction, forcing the enemy to waste shots on them instead of the main army - so that may not suit the army theme you're trying for.

I didn't use them as a central theme but I used them in a list basically consisting of a full 15 men warbiker unit+Pain boy, 30 men Storm boyz unit, 2 trukk boyz unit and 2 battle wagons full of boyz (every units had their Nobz+PK+BP)

The Stormboyz often ended up being shot dead first turn but the rest of my army was basically unscathed for the first turn.
So, at first, my storm boyz were considered a huge threat by my opponents and they actually served a purpose.

After a little while, the bikers became the primary target since they hit pretty hard when they do and so the storm boyz can now advance at the expanse of the bikers.

So, in the end, its up to you but I would guess. If you want a SB themed army, 2 full units of 30 storm boyz would probably provide you with 1 unit worth of storm boyz for a turn 2 assault (after 30 of them have been blown up in turn 1).
In any case, these will attract a lot of attention for the rest of your speed freaks force to advance.

A full 30men stormboyz unit with PK and BP nob is around 310pts IIRC. Add to each of them a painboy on bike for the first turn and you suddenly increase your 30 men boyz to about 40men worth of them with the 33% successfull FNP rolls. Furthermore, you can try to use trukks and BW to put in front of the Stormboyz to provide cover saves.

Anyways, I'm sure there is something fun to do with a storm boyz force with the correct support units that would be decent on the table.

With the following list, if you play at 1850, this gives you about 200 free pts to add something like 11 tankbustas + Nob/bp/Trukk for some missile shots or a 4 men mega nobz unit in a trukk for some more heavy hitting power klaws.

Consider Da Vulcha Skwadron from the Waaagh! Ghazghkhull supplement. You can go up to 90 stormboyz and still have a whole FOC to fill after that. I don't like that they are forced to start in reserve, though.

The fluffy army I always wanted to have was a warboss lite dressed like a commissar peering through some binoculars and firing a dead shiny shoota in the air to keep the crewman of the tractor cannon he's directing at attention.. Across the battlefield his 6 squads of 15 stormboyz and four truck units are going nutz while the warboss tries to ground flying targets. Maybe use Zagstruck for a body guard or a SAG mek for the scend HQ

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.
