So I've just spent the past month or so painting up what I have and was about to get ready to actually play the game now. I probably will play sporadically when I can pull friends in, so won't have tons of time to proxy and figure out what works best. Was hoping to get some opinions on any more units that should be bought over others. Absolutely loved painting up both factions, but I really loved painting the Scourge.

Here's what I have from (2) 2 player battle boxes plus some blisters.
UCM - Condors, Bears, Sabres, Rapiers and Legionaires from the starters plus blisters of Kodiak, Raven A's and B's, Wolverines Praetorians and a Ferrum
Scourge - Marauders, Invaders, Hunters, Reapers and Horde from the starters plus blisters of Desolator, Intruder Alpha and Beta, Harbinger, Prowler, Stalker and Destroyers

So, based on that are there any other must-have units that need to be added or should I just buy fun looking stuff to paint.

I can only really speak for UCM, but you already have the ones I'd consider to be "first buys."

Suggestions:

2xKatana Blister, 1xEagle

This forms the infamous UCM demolition crew (imagine shooting a building with 18 shots that hit on 2+ and damage on a 2+ or double damage on 4+)

1-2xFalcon Blister

With the update, Falcons are only getting hit on 6+ with reaction fire, making them incredibly dangerous to enemy AA (they either try to reaction fire them down on the way in, or they pray that you miss with your shots so they can try to shoot you normally....at 4+ or 5+ accuracy).

1xArchangel Blister

Archangels can allow you to snipe off stray dropships anywhere on the map. I personally run 4 Archangels (2 blisters), but many run just 2. It also lets you get full use out of your command deck (One card, Ace In The Making, only works on Fast Movers). Try one pair and see if you like them.

1-2xLongbow Blister

Longbows work great with your tanks, you can have your tanks pop off shots, then have Longbows smoke them so the return fire gets an accuracy penalty. Add in that it's one of the few ways for UCM to get template weapons in the army and that they are relatively cheap in points cost. They need to be paired with Raven-Bs, but you already have some.

Don't forget the Phoenix (that huge commander gunship) is coming out at the end of the month.

Awesome. Thanks a lot. Exactly what I was looking for. The air support had been cropping up in my head as to whether they added value or not, so this is a big help.

To be honest you can get pretty much any unit for the Scourge or for UCM and expect it to do well. That said, I would suggest Reavers and Ravagers to cover some of your missing Scourge elements.

Reavers: Powerful gunships that are surprisingly resilient and who offer some long range anti-tank capability. They are also great at dealing with hordes because they can shoot at up to three targets per turn (if you are within plasma hose range).

Ravagers: Long range multi-targetting AA platforms. They are as tough as UCM tanks, offer the same range as Rapiers, and can split their fire between two different targets. They lack the raw power that Reapers bring, but are excellent at providing a much needed static AA bubble.

Get the Scourge heavy tank, not the one with a flamethrower, but the one with a cannon. Also grab some razor worms.

It's a great combo unit since you can roll up the heavy tank and unload those razor worms onto some infantry.

I find the FM; archangels and seraphim, simply do not do well in my local meta. It's mostly to do with the fact that their firing range is F(N), which really hurts them.

Seraphim are harder to use (especially since one of their weapons is designed to destroy buildings, and in most missions the buildings you really want to destroy are over 6" tall).

But Archangels are generally for killing other aircraft, and unless you are using custom terrain all but maybe 2 or 3 of the cardboard buildings are under 6" in height so you should be able to find an attack run path.

You can still hit any building with a F(N) weapon. Fly adjacent to it. You will have it in arc for a shot, while legally not hitting any 6 inch or higher object.
