Recently did this in between working on Aztec land speeders and other commercial jobs. Good practice for my sculpting, which although still fairly poor is getting better. Quite pleased with the hammer.

Matthew beat me to the derpiness.

Absolutely love the paint job, man. The plasma glow reflection off his armor is especially nice.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means, haha.

If i were to make a criticism about it though, it can be somewhat on the bulky side. The details on many marine shoulder pads in GW kits don't have nearly as much girth for example. And the emblem and tassel next to his chin seem somewhat high, the chords being on the thick side. Even still however, much of your sculpting on that mini is appropriately sized, detailed with clear definition and really lends to its character.

And as always, your painting is impeccable.

TODEH WE'RE NOT IN SPEHSS!

Oh jeebus, an actual Boreale model! I love this.

However why doesn't he have the iconic Astartes pattern baldness?

Not bald enough for Boreale Joking aside, this looks fantastic. I'd love to see more Blood Ravens done up like this - the converted armor rules and looks straight out of the game, and the freehanding on the cape is perfect.

Oh yeah - no... I see how "poor" you are at sculpting. You should stop - so many mistakes on the work. Ugh....

I hate you....

i see exactly what he means...
i feel like i have a long way to go with my sculpting, as well...
there is a huge difference between what a hobbyist sees, and what a professional perfectionist sees...
for instance, look at the winged skulls on the shoulder pads, they are super-crisp, and undoubtedly press-moulded, which is an awesome cheat for those of us who are not professional sculptors...
now, looking at the arms and legs, you can see that the lines are not as straight and uniform, and have a bit of roughness at the wrists...
the hammer haft starts up top with some beautifully sculpted wraps, and ends up a bit blobby, and less distinct towards the bottom...
being dissatisfied with something like this, no matter how cool the finished product looks, is the sign of a true professional, who is not satisfied with anything less than perfection, and i approve of that attitude...

the painting looks good, but the chapter symbol is the weakpoint, for me...
it could just be the angle, but in the bottom right photo, the symmetry is not there, especially in the raven's tail...
it looks better in the bottom left photo, but still doesn't quite match the artwork...
i think it is the shape of the raven's head that bothers me...

all in all, a strong effort, and a ton of work...
always a pleasure to see what you've been up to, Maz...

cheers

No, the symbol is a bit of a divergence. It was a quick addition just to give something to the cloak, which wasn't so good plain.

Same issues you've raised are what I have with the sculpt. Each time I seem to get a bit better though. Need some proper sculpting lessons.

like i said, it's a nice piece overall, but there are always a few niggles with a finished product...
that is the price of perfectionism...
i get the vibe that we feel exactly the same about our work, which is what pushes us to get better with each job...

keep up the good work...

cheers
