I am looking to start a thousand sons heresy army. I was wondering, based either on their fluff, or based upon competent small scale lists that involve librarian consuls, what tactical strengths they have. I know they have infantry and they have terminators, and some vehicles... but are they more of an assault legion, an armor legion, or more of just a generic infantry based legion? I don't know if there is a solid answer out there currently, but if someone has one id like to hear it.

They are a small legion, focusing mainly on small strategic strikes (more similar to modern chapters than other legions) however they can still field large forces when the want. Equally capable of doing assault/armour/shooting.

Most lists have a core of legionaries , however you can build an army using terminators as troops using a rite of war.


Alas the rules don't currently support librarian leaders (they cannot be a compulsory hq). I use word bearer rules ,who can upgrade their characters to be psychers. They also have the only psychic primarch.

Well, we are looking at starting small, and while i'm coming dangerously close to posing a list, my plan is to use the consul delegatus, and a librarian as dual hq's. Use the new consul delegatus rite of war and take 2 vet squads, and 1 terminator squad in addition to the consuls. its basically a 1000 point zone mortalis and skirmish list. the idea is to start small and generic with a little bit of psyker flavor and build from there. I have looked at using word bearers as a counts as, but i just don't like their rites or legion specific units. Also their "psyker" is more "devil worship" which is not the flavor i want for my guys...

That's a cool idea , although I still think I prefer a praetor to the delgatus. The points savings are pretty small
