I currently bought 2 boxes of ork bikers - one will be a Big Mek on a bike with a KFF, the other 5 will be warbikers with a nob. Their purpose is to act as ablative wounds for the Mek, who provides a 5++ for my Battlewagons. But other than that - can they do any damage or are they just to be used as objective grabers?

With that small amount, use them to soak up wounds as you said, as well as harras small units, whatever survives after the wagons have delivered whatever should grab an objective.

Ok, got that covered. Other question - is it worth getting a nob in the unit, or should I just give the Big Mek A PK+BP?

It's especially worth it if you take Zhadsnark to make them troops. Take that, Eldar!

The nob is usually worth it. Once they have done the job of escorting the other vehicles they can be used to bully small units. Keeping the nob in there give them the umph to hunt vehicles as well.
