Hey all. Still new to 40k, my coworker has starting playing and is trying to build a tyranids list to play against my dark angels. Cost is a consideration, so I built a list based off the models she already has, with minimal purchases trying to get a well rounded army.

Models already owned - (she started with death storm box)

- children of cryptus (8x genestealer and spawn of cryptus) - 215
- termagant brood, devourers, 10 models - 80 points
- warrior brood (3 models), venom cannon, rending claws - 115
- warrior brood, same as above - 115
- gargoyle brood (10) - 60
- ravener brood (3) with the red terror - 190
- the beast of phodia - 170


Planned to purchase the hive mind box to fill out -

- tervigon, scything talons, stinger salvo, regeneration - 225
- hive tyrant, heavy venom cannon, scything talons, maw-claws of thyrax, acid blood, regeneration - 240
- warrior brood, scything talons, devourer, venom cannon - 100
- termagant brood (20) - 80

And from here I came up with two options -
Option A (cheaper) - trygon prime with regeneration - 260

Option B (more expensive but probably better) - 2x carnifex with various upgrades to fill out 260 points.


So basically with 2 box purchases she can fill out 1850 and field a lot of models with range and assault capabilities. My worry is lack of high strength items to take out my vehicles, as I have a land raider, predator, and dread. But I've never played nids so maybe I'm missing some things.

Any feedback and recommendations is greatly appreciated.

well, not bad, but currently the number one must have is a Winged Tyrant, two twin devourers: Brain Leeches, and a Thorax hive full of Electro-grubs 240 points of Awesome.

Most any list starts with one, then adds more as they become possible. The Haywire, and Vector Strike, and the massive shooting lets them solve most any problem.

A Tervigon is only a "Middle" choice currently, if you do use one, add a Thorax hive of Electro grubs.

Personally I would magnatise, or just build it as a Tyranofex, Acid Spray, and a Thorax hive: Electro. that's 185, and I often find the points for Adrenal Glands as well. I find it a magical unit at low points, and a usefull unit at higher point levels.

Carnifexen can handle Vehicles in assault with a D3 HOW S9.

At least one source of Shrouding is pretty much a "must have" for Tyranids as well. (A Venothrope, or Malanthrope)
