Looking to try something new and decided I might go with Imperial Fists

I whipped this up having no idea what is competitive or effective so any c&c would be very much appreciated.

HQ:

Librarian w/ mastery level 2

Troops:

3x 10 man squad w/ multi-melta, melta/ Sargent w/ combi-melta

3x rhinos

Fast Attack:

Stormtalon

Elites:

10 man Sternguard squad w/ 2 meltas/ Sargent with comb-melta w/ drop pod

Heavy Support:

Devastators w/ heavy bolters (librarian goes here)

2x thunderfire cannons.

Please let me know what you guys think. I'd love to get some feedback before I drop money on this.

Welcome to playing Imperial Fists! First of all you should pick up the Sentinels of Terra supplement. It adds a lot of awesome things to an Imperial Fists list (relics, chapter tactics, FOC slots).

That aside, some of the good things in the list:

The Tactical Squads are good. I would drop the multimelta if you need the points since you'll be firing on the move anyway most of the times. If anything, a heavy bolter in a combat squad adds some punch to the non-melta part of the unit especially with 'close range bolter drill' (from the Sentinels of Terra supplement), but YMMV.

The TFCs are awesome, and two of them is good stuff.

The devastators are nice, but you should take advantage of their tank hunter ability and give them lascannons. I would also recommend Devastator Centurions with lascannons and missiles since they're more mobile and durable IMO.

The Stormtalon is nice, and best suited for anti-infantry of FMC control. It's not a durable unit so I wouldn't put much into its upgrades, usually the skyhammer missiles are enough and pair well with the assault cannon.

The Sternguard are alright, but they're so expensive that they really need a drop pod to put them where you need before they take casualties. In a game this size, I'd probably leave them out if not in a pod.

The librarian is a fine HQ choice at this point level (especially with the 'Bones of Osrak' from the Sentinels of Terra supplement), but the problem I always find is that I'm not sure where to put him.. since there's not a lot of psychic presence he sorta feels outta place to me, but again, YMMV.

Hope that helps!

Thanks!

Sorry I forgot to mention that the Sternguard have a drop pod.

My two friends currently play Orks and Imperial Guard so this list was made with them in mind. I figured the marines with bolters could handle Orks on most occasions and the meltas would help me pop transports.

The devastators are just there to cut down infantry and light vehicles. If I take lascannons on them do I still need the meltas on the marine squads?

Ide give the Tac squads flamers or plasma to deal with infantry, maybe a heavy Bolter too if your sitting on an objective.

I agree, with the stern able to alpha strike something I would make one or two of the tac squads take a flamer or something with some crowd or light armor control. Bolters are good crowd control but nothing like a flamer to ruin some days.
