Hey so in my local meta there are a lot of assault armies including one that I need to start preparing to match up against. He runs a Space Wolves list centered around Thunderwolf Cavalry. I'm not so worried about his deep striking terminators or drop pod dreadnoughts but what is the Necron response to the multi-wound, high toughness models that use a lot of power weapons (hammers, claws)? He's fond of multi-assaulting units with his wolves effectively tying up multiple units of mine and then killing them with power weapons.

If you've got suggestions of models to use to combat this please provide examples of why a particular unit will be better suited than another. Thank you

Wraiths to hold them in place and respond quickly.

Lychguard with Warscythes. Use furious charge from zhandrek if you can (some marines have it- make sure to check) for str8 instant death.

Use a decurion. Reanimate and the wolves are gone.

I knew wraiths already would be effective. The I5, lots of attacks + rending is good but the TWC has a 3+ invunerable save with their shield and somehow he is even re-rolling that sometimes. I am not sure what gives him that buff.

Tried Lychguard with warscythes last night against Orks and was pretty disappointed. With the I2 means that most of his TWC with claws are striking first and without the invunerable that a shield would give me, I'm only getting reanimation protocols. Then I strike back with whatever units I haven't lost and sure I'll do some damage but if I'm not charging with the lychguard I'm only getting 2 attacks, hitting on 4s, wounding on 2s but then he's getting 3+ invunerable. At this point I might kill a wolf if I'm lucky and then he swings with his I1 units which is probably 15 Hammer attacks. Hitting on 4s, Wounding on 2s and then I get a 5+ reanimation which will surely wipe out whatever of my models is left.

TWC are S5 so I need Str 10 to insta-kill one.

I'm not sure that is what I am looking for.

Use lychguard with shield. Without hit and run the twc will be stuck. Put orikan in there and you save 90% of the wounds. Also you can only multi assault if you can stay in coherent so spread out between units.

It depends on how you run your list but I run mine CC heavy which helps. 10 lyguard with scythes and zhandrekh backed up by a conptek harvest of 5 wraiths with whip coils. I faced the wolfstar before and you need to tie it down with the wraiths long enough for your heavy hitters to come in and clean up. Works great but can be tricky positioning.
