Hi all, would greatly appreciate some advice.
I'm about to enter a tournament at my lms and was wondering what people would choose.
It's a relatively small points game so I need a list that can cover all bases (or as many as possible) The army would have to be an all rounder in terms of enemies faced as we don't know who we'll be playing against although there are quite a lot of loyalist marine armies.
In addition we will be playing 2v2. So the total points on each side will be 1500. Although each army will be picked separately as the ally will change per game.
Also I've only recently come back to playing 40k so am a bit sketchy with the rules.
It's not super competitive but I'd like something that has a chance when used wisely

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

If you don't even say how you like to play you're just going to get the net list as advice. And you can just look that up on your own too.

Nurgle Lord on Bike with Blight Grenades
Plague Marines 7x in Rhino with Plasma
Cultists 15x+
Bikes 5x with Mark of Nurgle and Melta
Obliterators with Mark of Nurgle.

Same as every other cookie cutter Chaos list. Find a way to make 750pts out of those units. As listed, I got 720pts so add your personal flavor if you like. Can't help you on 'sketchy with the rules' if you don't elaborate on what you aren't clear with. If the tournament was super competitive you wouldn't be bringing Chaos. They aren't that impressive after all.

I am surprised no one mention that blasted heldrake. God I hate that thing. I remember a time when people would have 6 of those in a double cad list.

Heldrake got nerfed to only be able to use the torrent in front of it instead of the 360 degree thing it used to do. Plus the Nerf to Vector Strike. It's still good and tough, but anti tank is much more important than anti infantry in the sky. Maybe at 1000, but not at 750pts.

Ok thanks for the reply, I didn't mean to ask for advice in such a vague way so I'll try and clarify.
In a small points game like this would it be worth taking Typhus/Abaddon? They would be a real points sink but both hit hard and Typhus allows the use of plague zombies. I suspect these could sit on objectives and be difficult to shift.
It appears there are a few musts which most sights seem to agree on, chaos bikers and obliterators being two of them. Is it still worth taking chaos space marine squads due to their all rounder role or is it best to pick specialist units?

Plague Marines ARE your zombies/squads all rolled into one package. Blight Grenades are one of the best things you can use against 'objective taking' units, they already have Fearless and Feel no Pain all while being T5. There aren't many more units in the game more difficult to shift than a stubborn Plague Marine squad.

Typhus is usable, if you ditch so much more of the list and just focus on defense. Whereas Bikers and Obliterators and even Plague Marines in a suicide Rhino are all offense, meant to push forward at all times, steal objectives, hold them and be generally strong.

If you prefer the slow game then by all means, but it's just going to reduce your actual units, make you cut some of the above in place of an HQ who just grants Fearless to a unit of Cultists and who can't be put in a Rhino.

Nurgle Lord on a bike it is then. I will have to convert this unit which should be interesting.
I'm not adverse to cookie cutter builds but just wanted to hear opinions.
