I also need to remember that the Gremlins are one of the more expendable crews around.
This. One of the great things about Malifaux is even if you don't have a good counter to a game element on the table, you can work around it with good tactics. Gremlins are cheap, sacrifice them whenever you feel like you need a laugh.

Heh, what a ridiculous piece. I feel bad playing Killjoy with anyone with a fast delivery system... to the point where I don't even consider taking him unless I'm playing a competitive/A-game situation.
I laugh at your silly little Killjoy. Once you know how to deal with him, he's annoying at worst.

Eh, I play in a meta with a fair number of new players, so I'd rather they don't get that discouraged, since I already have a bunch of tricks up my sleeve without the giant undead beat stick eating 10 points and then gumming up their line.
I've run into the same problem with my belles. At first they look way too good, but once you understand how the game work they cease to be so. First order optimal strategies are important, I usually point the newbies to them so they can get their feet on solid ground before the tide hits.

Yeah, that bodyguard thing is a lesson we all learn the hard way. Scheme specifics are a big key to victory.

Glad to hear you got some good experiences in!
