I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions regarding using artifical grass. Got a heap of the stuff and was wondering if it was possible to make it into something for terrain (in particular how to remove the sheen for it to make it look less like, well artificial grass).

What, exactly, do you mean by "artificial grass?" Static grass? Large-bladed plastic tropical plant grass? Astro-turf carpeting-style grass mats? Each would have significantly different uses, as well as require different techniques to manipulate.

Judging by your mention of the sheen, I'm guessing you're talking about plastic plants, like those used in silk floral arrangements and aquariums. In that case... good luck! They're almost exclusively made from something akin to PET or PTFE - the plastic sheds paints and varnishes like crazy. Even otherwise robust primers seem to have trouble sticking.

The Dreadnote wrote:But the Emperor already has a shrine, in the form of your local Games Workshop. You honour him by sacrificing your money to the plastic effigies of his warriors. In time, your devotion will be rewarded with the gift of having even more effigies to worship.

If you mean astroturf, it's actually useful for low-growing plants for fields if cut into strips.

Maybe give it a shot of Testors Dullcoate and see if that takes the shine off it?

You could use it as a basis for a marshland a bit like this....

Confused.

Also teddy bear fur, doormats, thick carpets and broom bristles will work similarly. You'll have to trim at different heights for variation and soften transitions then get painting with sprays or an airbrush..

It'd be a tough thing to look right and be playable as models have to stand on top of it as it's so dense, probably better to make it in clumps or swathes to help models seem lower.

Everyone: No.
