They're in a really unusual position, particularly because some quite recent additions like the tau commander are must have units and really quite recent. Farsight is another example of a great kit that they'll either have to redo or not keep in stores. I mean would GW redo those kits in plastic so soon?

This isn't an issue for the likes of Darkstrider or longstrike or a regular ethereal. But I think it is an issue for the others as they are all either big kits, such as the tau commander or have a bunch of people/drones with them which make it difficult to pack into a clampack. The Prophet of Regret....sorry, Aun Va and his chair wouldn't fit, much less his bodyguards. Shadowsun could if she was on her own as they have done terminator sized models although there is then the issue of her having three drones. But then, neither Aun Va or Shadowsun have enough in them or are big enough models to justify having a bigger box. They don't really fit anywhere within GW current way of boxing its figures.

Personally I hope they address a lot of this pretty soon. Bit weird going into my local and them not having any of the tau HQ section apart from a fireblade.

Well its rumored they might get a box set I believe in the fall so maybe along with that will be some new model kits.

yeah I could see if they're heavy on finecast GW using them in a campaign as a chance to issue more plastic

It wouldn't surprise me if some time in the next few years GW released a new Crisis Suit kit with options for the various HQs, like how you can make Nork Deddog from the Ogryn/Bullgryn kit.
