Hello everyone as the title says im looking into starting Daemonkin. Im lost on units and transports. I feel any good daemonkin army needs berzerkers and CSM so I need to get them across the bord

I dont want to buy anything i dont need so Im thinking if I bought maybe 2 rhinos that would work?? Or do I buy a land raider and load up my berzerkers and charge it up the field and let them assault right away.

Im looking to buy the daemonkin warband box for a really good price and so want to know if its worth it.

Ive never really played chaos but i love the idea of the army and would love some advice on tactics that would work well with that box set if anyone is familiar with it and what else I should get to bolster the army

ANY ADVICE IS SUPER HELPFUL

Land Raiders are only available as either Heavy Support or Dedicated Transports for Terminators. This means you're really limited on how to get them in a Blood Host Detachment, since there's no way to take Land Raiders by themselves and only one of the formations allows you take Terminators (which would mean its' a DT anyway, so only the Terminators could start the game embarked in it). Of course you could take a Combined Arms Detachment with minimum tax units of cultists so you can bring Heavy Support Land Raiders.

Rhinos are probably a better bet, and significantly cheaper (plus when they die you get Blood Tithe points!) but of course you have the assault restrictions. Still, if you kitted your CSM squad for shooting (2 Plasma and a Combi-Plas maybe), put them in a Rhino alongside some Bezerkers/Possessed in Rhinos and also had a strong force of Bikers/Flesh Hounds/Maulerfiends and rushed everything forward 1st turn you could give your opponent some target priority problems. Sure the Possessed/Bezerkers will be standing around for a turn, but the opponent has other problems to worry about with Bikers/Flesh Hounds/Maulerfiends about to assault them.

Another option is to take an allied CSM detachment.
Only one cultist tax, access to more HQs like nurgle lords, sorcerors and belakor.

Also a CSM land radier has access to legacies of ruin, including the handy 1st war of armageddon, which gives +1 to invun to daemons of khorne within 6 (could be your whole army )

what do you guys think of the termie and bloodletter on juggernaut formation in the codex??

You basically get it when you buy that box set

also if i run that formation does that mean i cant have a termie lord or jugg lord with them attached?

and can they deep strike

Having prodded around a little with this, I can say the Slaughtercult is significantly more forgiving than the Decurion for minimal effective buy in. In a 1500+ list, having both a Slaughtercult for the tithe benefits and a CAD for cherry picking your favourite units should be very easy so long as you go for the type of multiple small unit spam that matches the tithe exploiting playstyle.

Brazen Onslaught needs 2 units of Bloodcrushers and 1 unit of Terminators, and that box set only comes with 3 Bloodcrusher models (ie 1 unit). You'd need to buy another Bloodcrusher box to run it.

I don't think that formation is all that great. +1 attack if they're outnumbered is nice but Bloodcrushers are over-priced as it is, and the formation forces you to run two units of them. A 3W model with only T4 and a 5++ is just begging to be instant-death'd by S8 shooting, which isn't exactly lacking amongst alot of armies. Add the cost of the Terminator unit and it's a fairly expensive formation for mediocre performance. Flesh Hounds and/or Chaos Bikers are much better fast assualting units.

I think you are much better off with a rhino rush supported by spawn, maulerfiends, and the gorepack. Some soulgrinders too are not bad either.

hmmmmm good points sooooo

so should i scrath out the daemonkin box

and buy lets say

2 rhinos
1unit CSM
1 unit berserkers
1 unit termies
gorepack with minimal units

and then an HQ

plus i have 20 cultits already

what else should I incorportate mind you im trying to spend under 250 which off ebay is doable seeing how almost everything is around 30 bucks plus i have 25 in ebay cash to spend

Yeah that looks alright. Make your HQ either a Chaos Lord on Bike/Juggernaut or a Herald on Juggernaut so he can ride with the Flesh Hounds.

You'll need Possessed (and probably a Rhino for them) if you want to run a Slaughtercult, but that can be a future purchase.

Soul Grinders and Maulerfiends will work well with a fast rush list (take the torrent flamer on the Grinder).

More Flesh Hounds can never go wrong - my favourite Chaos Demon unit is a Herald of Khorne on Juggernaut with 10 Flesh Hounds. Use Chaos Warhounds from the Warriors of Chaos fantasy range as way cheaper count-as models.

And of course the new Bloodthirster is a fantastic looking model - who cares if it's rules are somewhat average (dat S: D axe tho), it will look amazing as a centrepiece model

ok so I crunched some numbers and heres what I believe i will buy first up just because of points I want to run a slaughtercult because the benefits are the real thing that makes the khorne daemonkin unique

2 rhinos for a unit of berzerkers and CSM

1 unit of possessed.....maybe switch it up so the csm just foot slog in back field and hold objective??

1 unit of termies to deep strike in back field

and an HQ either the Chaos lord in termie armour to go with deepstrike unit or a herald on juggernaut??

and 2 units of 10 cultitsts that i have that go out front of everything to die as fast as possible and give a 5 up cover save to units behind??

and that will come out to 180 with my ebay cash

is this a good start??

I really wanna do the gore pack but its financially expensive atm
or should i skip termies and go after a squad of bikers and save up for hounds and do chaos lord on bike??

Though keep in mind you can't include Terminators in a Slaughtercult. You'll have to either get 2 units of Bloodcrushers to run the Brazen Onslaught formation, or get a 2nd HQ so you can run a Combined Arms Detachment (use the cultists as the 2 troop choices).

hmmmm true....... and i need two units of CSM right for the slaughtercult??

or can i take a unit of berzerkers and a unit of CSM?

Hmmmmm ugh this is so hard haha

I now see that I can get the CSM attack force which include a termie squad and termie lord

maulerfiend

1 unit of CSM and 1 unit of raptors......do you think this is a better deal.

Id get if for 140 and then use the surplus to go towards another unit or two of which im debating.
