So im short on models by a bit, both in the primary and secondary detachments, If you were playing a friendly game, and i have to emphasize FRIENDLY game, would you be ok with your opponent taking a modified version of the green tide detachment?

80+ boyz, 1 Warboss, 1 Painboy.

and then adding in another warboss as an independent character.

yes or no?

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

I'm perfectly fine with people playing unbound BUT I feel that formations should be followed to access their benefits. If this were apoc I wouldn't care at all.

Do you need 20 orks? PM me, I'll hook you up if you've got trade bait.

You could always just proxy the models you're missing via cut-out circles of paper. Given that the Green Tide will lose at least 20 Orks anyways just remove them first when you suffer casualties. I have to agree with DaKrumpa in following the formation rules/restrictions, otherwise what's the point?

I feel like if it's truly a friendly game, you should be able to get away with it just fine.

Is this a game against somebody you know and can contact before the game? Or do you mean just like a regular pick-up game at a store?

As it's a friendly game then just proxy the other 20 models using something else with the same size base, as long as that's ok with your opponent. But if you were only going to use 80 models and try to claim the benefits of the formation I would say 'no', to be honest.

If its just that then no one is going to care. you will gain no benefits but its green tide. its all the benefit you need

Edit: wait are you trying to gain the benefit of a formation without actually meeting the requirements of said formation? then feth no even in friendlies

I would say yes, but pay the points for the 100, and assume 20 died during deployment. You get the benefit but pay for it.

I'm not familiar with green tide, is the issue that it needs to include 100 orks?

There always is the option of using tokens to represent the extra 20, so we could always do that. I will say you should definitely be required to have the full 100 though, doing something to represent that even if you don't have the models.

Personally, if we had a friendly game, I'd make you pay for the full 100 orks. Then, every time an ork at the front of the mob dies you'd place them standing at the back of the unit, until those 20 extra casualties had been totaled. Maybe set a d20 at the side of the table to keep track. Better visual appeal than using tokens.

I would personally be annoyed, since you can use 80 orks in the game. You just can't use them in the Green Tide formation. There's nothing forcing someone to use Green Tide, when they could easily field those orks another way. If they just wanted to 'try out' the formation before assembling 20 more orks, cool. Pick up 20 other models, or empty bases, and proxy it. But to just get the benefits of the formation without the requirements? Nope.

Similarly, if someone had 9 orks in one squad, and wanted to use a base for the last ork, I'd be okay. There's no legal way to use 9 orks, so a counter for one is cool. Let's play.

Da Butcha has a good point. Like you could bring all 80 without using the tide. The point of the tide is to allow 100 in one unit.

But playing with a buddy, I would think its cool.
