Hi!

Lately I've gotten rather intrigued by the Dark Mechanicum. I remember there was some mention of 'Data Daemons' in one of the old BL books. So what are they exactly? Is there any info on them? And more importantly: what do they look like?

Thanks!

I imagine they look like binary, but with a 2 hidden in there.

I viewed the scrapcode bit(and I'm reaching back to the publication date of Mechanicum, so bear with me) as the chaotic influence of the warp on the logic engines of the Imperium. Anything can be corrupted, or so they say, so why not data? Knowledge being a pathway to daemonhood is something BL likes to work with, so I imagine there's nothing utterly unique to a data daemon other than the form of transmission.

Like a computer virus. But also a daemon.

I thought they were what corrupts a spirit within a machine. You know how they have personalities and need to be prayed too etc... well sometimes they can get corrupt (I assumed). Its just another front of corruption, when your very vehicles etc start to get tainted.

Possibly, if you are a Tech-Priest directly interfacing with the machine in question via a cybernetic link of some sort, but data-daemons are not something that most mundane people can perceive. They are what threatens machines, and is why Mars is so lethally dangerous.

If your accounting cogitator gets a data-daemon, it's just going to give you bad (possibly heretical) data... if your gun-servitor gets possessed by a data-daemon, though, it goes homicidal.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Could be like Daemon from Reboot, if anyone watched that show. Or any of the sentient viruses.

Oh man Reboot! "This is BAAAAD, this is really BAAAAAD!" At least, that's how I remember Bob's main quote from that show!

Really loved it, whatever happened to it?

I though data daemons had no form what so ever that they were corrupt scrap code
