hi everyone

as the title says Im wondering if should buy a box set that contains termies or if theyre not worth. I love termies and the look of them but if they arent really gunna perform well I dont see a need for them.

any advice is helpful thank you

CSM Termies are interesting for suicide melta drops. Not much aside that.

Maulerfiends do the same job and are better units

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

If you do up the Formation that gives them an extra attack for being outnumbered, then they can do some damage against elite non-AP2 units. Or, if you keep their numbers even lower and give them combimelta, then you have Termicide that doesn't take up Elites slots. The upside of Termicide is that even if they complete their mission they still have Power Weapons to go smack something nearby.

As far as doing their jobs, there is always something better at a specific job. A Vindicator is better for killing small units of elite somethings and a pair of Maulerfiends are better at killing tanks. You do have to make the conscious decision to use something that is less good at all the things than take the ones that are better at the specific things.

I still use Terminators to good, not great, effect. Dropping them from Reserves away from Hordes or large squads and being enough threat to have to be dealt with, but not enough threat to focus EVERYTHING on. Wipe out some Sternguard, an Assassin, a lone tank or Land Raider or a set of Biovores. Whatever isn't protected as the game goes on.

I still like them but I think a lot of it has to do with my regular opponents still not quite coming to grips with how to handle them so YMMV. They don't 'make their points back' but that is an antiquated idea and shouldn't apply anymore. If my 240pt squad kills the enemy's 140pt Las Predator and that action prevents my 210pt Obliterators from being wiped out bit by bit, that is still a plus in my book even though the points are skewed and they didn't 'make their points back' by a margin.

IMO the termies in the Khorne Daemonkin are actually very good. The brazen onslaught ones are the best but even the CAD ones are useful.

I recommend 3 of them (including champ) with combi-plasma and maces. You can DS them in next to a priority target and shoot it. The next turns you can charge enemy units, claim objectives, and when the opponent kills the unit get 2 blood points.

People always recommend combi-melta but landing a DS within melta range is extremely low reliability. Additionally plasma is more useful for rear armour AV 10-11 when you can DS in behind a vehicle. The biggest advantage though is the improved shooting against MCs. You have an excellent chance of landing within 12" of a target.

With the addition of FnP the units become really annoying to kill as your opponent will constantly either over or under commit to killing them.

Yeah the formation that they can take is quite excellent, +1 attack, give them Rage and some Power Mauls, alright yea now we're talking.

It's a good unit. The +1 Attack seals the deal for me personally.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.
