I posted something similar to this a few weeks back but I've been brewing it ever since. I can't seem to figure out how to mass sternguard with Pedro and not just have them all die trying to drive across the table. That plus the recommendations I tend to see online that honour guard need either a drop pod or a land raider to get them in position led me to and all-drop list. This is what I've come up with...

Pedro and the captain (Cortez) drop in with the honour guard, but Pedro splits off quickly to join some sternguard before the honour guard get carried away in CC. Captain Cortez tries to tank as many wounds as he can for the honour guard before they make contact, but I can't upgrade him to another chapter master of I lose my 5-meltagun command squad. I like them in this role more than sternguard: they do the sui-squad cheaper and can keep harassing armor if they manage to survive the initial reprisal somehow.

Does Pedro unlock honor guard? I would find a way to work in a land raider for the honor if so because of the ability to assault when disembark.

Power fists on sarges are risky as they can be challenged out of the group and slaughtered quickly.

How is your captain cortez? Also I fear you like the ability to take out fliers or deal with armor. An armor list is going to hurt.

Look to combi melta one of the 10 man groups down to two 5 man groups of one melta and one flamer?

Also pedro, and honor guard and capt could be a sweet hammer in a land raider if you can squeeze the points(dropping power fists for one). The heavy flamer sternguard seem to be doing the same role as the scouts?

Yeah Pedro counts as a chapter master for honour guard.

I was thinking about a land raider but I can't justify spending all those points on a single unit that's no good if it gets blown out half-way across the field. It would be easy to swap the pods out for rhinos but I don't feel that cramming in a single land raider is good. 2 would be great but I don't think sternies are good in raiders....thoughts?

I've been worried about my armor situation too. I could easily swap the weapons around on the sternguard, it wouldn't be hard to get some meltaguns/combi-meltas in there.

I'm not a huge fan of combis on sternguard in this edition either, they're too expensive to take lots of and you lose the special ammo for a round. Command squads do it better, cheaper, and more repeatably.

Good point about the heavy flamers on the sternguard and the scouts, I just had 10 points and figured heavy flamers were better than regular flamers.
