Ok so I've had a first bash at a 1500 list using the new Daemonkin Codex and have come up with two options. At first glance I'm not sure how effective the Blood Host Detachment is going to be due to having to take Possessed/CSM/Berserkers/Bloodletters which have never appeared too good in terms of competitiveness. Having said that I don't know how the whole Blood Tithe thing will play out in practice and whether the Blood Host bonuses for it will make up for the oft-considered sub-par units. The result is I've come up with two quite similar lists, both based around MSU and the Blood Tithe and am looking for thoughts. On with the lists:

Option 1 Blood Host Detachment

Slaughtercult
Chaos Lord, Juggernaut, Sigil of Corruption, Axe of Ruin, Melta Bombs 210
8x CSM, Plasma gun, Champ w combi-bolter, Rhino 183
10x Bloodletters, Instrument, Banner of Blood 130
5x Possessed 150
1x Spawn 32
1x Spawn 32
8x Cultists 58
8x Cultists 58

Gorepack
3x Bikers, Meltagun, Champ w Meltabombs 91
3x Bikers, Meltagun 86
5x Flesh Hounds 80
5x Flesh Hounds 80

War Engines

TOTAL 1500

Option 2 CAD

Just curious, but I thought Cultists had to be taken in squads of 10, or does Daemonkin allow for smaller squads?

Khorne's sacred number is eight, so codex allows you to field CSMs, Cultists, Bloodletters and Berzerkers in squads of 8 models.

I'm not sold on the need for cultists in the slaughtercult. I mean blood points, yeah but also 116 points that can be better spent.

that one rhino sticks out a bit, get one for the possessed too.

I don't think you gain much in a daemonkin CAD, over what you get in the regular CSM or daemon book. The gorepack is great tho.

It's a fair point about the cultists but on the other hand if you run them upfield as quick as possible the enemy has to either waste shooting on them (giving blood points) or ignore them and let them start hitting objectives. Where would you put the points saved though apart from another rhino? Maybe bulk up the Flesh Hound or Spawn units?

Agreed about the comparison between a Daemonkin CAD and the regular Codexes, but I want to try a few games just focusing on the new Codex and seeing whether it's better to go all in on the new detachments/formations, or try and work it around a regular CAD. Hence the two options. I do like that I can get a Heldrake in the list much easier by going down the CAD route though.

And yeah, the Gorepack is definitely the stand out formation for me in the Codex.
