I am bran new to 40k. I have loved the game from a distance for some time now but everything was expensive and I just never decided to jump in. The other day I was at my game store and I acquired two sets called "chaos space marine army dark vengeance" . Now I know this is a Noob question but I am very new and inexperience. I was wondering these guys are compatible with any other chaos stuff and if I buy more sets to go with them do I need to buy a faction or go reg chaos marine or demons? also along that line if I intend to field this army what books should I get? I saw a Dark Angels book and a chaos marine codex and a chaos demons codex. I would like to learn to play but I want to make sure I get the right material. and also can anybody point me towards good videos to watch for tutorial type stuff for us new guys? I have been watching games oh youtube and its looks like its a bunch of fun. also if anybody can suggest a couple of units that would be fun to add to the sets I got. Sorry to add such a long post but I am exited to learn to play after have been thinking about it for a few years now. Thanks for reading my post any information would be awesome.

It seems like you are interested in Chaos. Like Silly over here, the set includes Chaos Space Marines and Dark Angels. Firstly, I would get the Codex, because it has several things that can help you like pictures of models and story. Most importantly though, is how you can use the units. As for what to get, you can never go wrong with a box of standard Chaos Space Marines. Finally, if you have any further questions just ask your local GW or gaming store. Have fun and no doubt ill see you on dakka in the future!

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

Thank you very much guys. I feel like such a Noob I was given the set for doing some work for the owner of my local game store. I am exited to learn the game and I love the idea of painting and setting up my army or armies now. I really appreciate the information and I know my questions are very Noobish but I look forward to getting both the dark angels and the chaos space marine codex's now and making models for both armies. I have looked around at the chaos side and I think my next set will be bikers just because they look so bloody cool. Now that I know about the Dark Angels side I will check out there units also. I am very exited to learn to play and customize my mini's. I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you so much.

Just be careful, if they price tags were a turn off before then spending 100$+ for a few books might not sound like a good plan. I would suggest looking into any other source material to get an idea for the organization/background of the factions and then decide on focusing on one or the other for now

Good point I think I am going to work on chaos side and put the Dark Angels off for a while. Or I may look to trade my angels for more chaos. Though it seems as if Dark Angels are less expensive so building them first may very well be the way I go.

Welcome to Dakka! Yeah, just start with the Dark Vengeance set and see how you like it. Expand from there. You can find a ton of great info on this site (army lists, painting guides, etc.). Feel free to ask questions!

For new units the main things you should look for is how cool the models look and how useful they would be; two good ways to tell is to A: buy the Chaos Space Marine Codex, and B: check out Chaos Space Marine Tactics on 4chan, and figure out which models fit both criteria. Also welcome to Dakka
